2015 B.E.E.R. Cruise

Post by Sea Wind »

B.E.E.R. Backwater Environmental Escape Rendezvous
http://www.beercruise.info/

From their website:

The date this year will be June the 12th thru the 16th.

The plans are Friday night will be the skippers meeting with a skippers dinner provided by the Pensacola Shipyard. Saturday we sail out to the Pensacola Beach Boardwalk for a day of swimming and a night of food and loud music! FUN FOR ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now this is where we are doing a little something different this year. After getting some feed back from some guess last year, we will be sailing west to sailboat cove on big lagoon and spending 2 NIGHTS ON THE HOOK THERE! That's right 2 nights! People mentioned they really enjoyed not having to pickup camp to sail to another destination, so we decided to keep us at the cove for 2 nights on the hook.

Now this doesn't mean you can't pick up the hook and day sail beautiful Big Lagoon or Pensacola bay and return to the cove for the great camp fire sing along! Just offering the option to you all!

BEER has a kid, crew, boat and pet friendly open door policy for all 2 and 4 legged attendees and we don't discriminate on the basis of gender, race, national or planetary origin, religion, politics / sexual, boat or beer preference / animal breed. We even let Catalina owners attend (LOL! A little since of humor).

As in the past, this is not a sanctioned event, each skipper will be responsible for his or her own vessel and crew. There is no cost involved for joining this group during this event. The only cost you might incur, will be the marina cost and the cost of the cookout on Friday night, if you wish to participate.

Where exactly is Sailboat Cove? I found Big Lagoon without any difficulty, but no specific coves other than Sherman Cove at the east end. Just wondering, is all.

Here are a couple of pictures from this years BEER Cruise 2015.
When we got there on Friday afternoon, all the docks were already full and by the time we finished rigging, they were double-stacking boats on the docks. So we decided to launch Saturday morning, when spots are available. The Marina treated us to a great dinner on Friday and Saturday was spend at Pensacola Beach. On Sunday and Monday the boats filled the "Sailboat Cove" beaches in the Big Lagoon and much fun was had by all. The days were spend with good camaraderie and the evenings concluded with a big circle around the fire. Tuesday most sailed back to the Pensacola Shipyard to take their masts down and prepare for the travel home.

Thanks for the slide show. Looks like it was a great time.

My kids, the dog or I pulled one of my fuel lines loose climbing in the back. Therefore, I've been looking at adding a platform over all the linkage, hoses, etc. There's a nice looking :macx: in your slide show with a platform and a helm seat with solar panels on it. Do you have any more pictures of her?

@ C Buchs,
Thank you for your comment. The boat is named "Thistle Dew 2" and the skippers name is Shawn. They came down from Canada to participate, but I don't know if they frequent this board. Here are 2 additional pictures of this boat,

Thanks for sharing, great video. We barely took pictures this year due to 3 very active boys under 7, but there were over 40 boats and about 12 Macs.
And despite being abused, the inflatable orca survived the trip.

I did that Beer Cruise in 2007 on my Potter 19.
I had a great time and went up the 10 hr drive with West Coast Sailing Squardren. We had about 6 boats.
Seems like the Mac's took over.

Hi there, I am the 'Admiral' of Thistle Dew :).
I haven't been on this forum in a long time (couldn't remember my name and password). I'm glad to be back, and glad I found this thread.
My husband/Captain of Thistle Dew is in fact Shawn and yes we did trailer down from Ontario Canada with our friends on Teliki and Windrush for BEER 2015.
Thankyou for the lovely pictures of our boat :)
We had a wonderful time at BEER - it was over far too soon. We hope to go back someday.
My husband did the custom platform and helm seat for our MacX. The seat suffered a bit on the road on the way home, but the Captain fixed it up quite nicely and she's ready to go for our next cruise on the North Channel of Georgian Bay next week.
We changed out the seat last year after the original seat fell and bonked me on the head - it was way to heavy to lift, and unsafe if you have to lift it up as your coming out of the water. The new seat is hinged in the middle so it can lifted on the ladder said. The back rest is attached separately on the opposite side of the ladder, and swings right out of the way so it can't fall back.
We decided to put the deck in because the new to us boat had scratches on the cockpit floor that were bugging the Admiral :o and so that when you come up the ladder you're not at risk of stepping on or tripping over the linkages - also made it easier for our crazy boat beagles to get on and off the boat.
I will try to load a couple close ups of the back deck and the seat, if I can figure out how :p

Here's a few pics of the cockpit deck before it was stained and the nav seat. The captain put snaps on the seat so the original cushions fit so it's comfy 8)

The last pic kind of shows how the whole seat/solar panel works (hard to see the solar panel).
