cruising Ireland

Post by Wayne nicol »

any mac owners in Ireland?
any opinions on cruising the coast of Ireland in a mac?
choosing the weather carefully, and taking ones time- i suppose they did go out there in those tiny curragh fishing boats.
our family are planning a month long holiday to Ireland. trying to see if we could set uyp a swap cruise deal with mac owners there- just a thought, or maybe just rent a keel boat!

Can't help with the details of the Irish coast, but I did hear about two Irish fishermen, Michael and Patrick, who went fishing in one their nice bays. Michael was looking for some gear in his locker and found a magic lamp. He immediately recognized its value and gave it a good rub. Out popped the proverbial "Genie", who said he would give him one wish and one wish only. Before Patrick could have a say, Michael asked the Genie to turn the waters of the bay into beer. And, in the blink of the eye, the waters of the bay turned a frothy dark amber. :P Michael and Patrick could hardly believe their eyes. They dipped their canteens in to the wonderous froth and started drinking the finest beer they had ever had in their mouths. 8) And, as two fishermen are apt to do, they drank their fill that afternoon. Then Patrick's countenance became a bit cloudy, and he remarked to his companion, "Now, Michael, look at the fine fix you have gotten us in...now we have to pee in the boat! :|

I hear they had fatality at the Guiness Brewery in Cork last week.
It seems Shaun Counihan fell into one of the large beer vats.
They hauled him out 3 times before he drowned.
The undertaker couldn't get the smile off his face. :D :D

There's 3 daily meals in Ireland: breakfast, lunch & dinner..
There's 3 beers: Harp, Smithwicks & Guiness.
Coincidence?? :D :D

Enjoy your corned beef and cabbage wit your Guiness today!

The primary "canal" in Ireland is the Shannon river. It's navigable from the coast via deep keel up to Limerick. At limerick, there's a rapids system that typical sailboats can't get through, but I'd be willing to be that a MacGregor in power mode could do, all boards up. Then you'd be motoring up river on a very wide, calm river all the way up to Dublin. Many islands on the Shannon were used as holy sites and monasteries, with 1500 year old monasteries being usual. Quite a beautiful float.
