You might also look at pictures of some of the Ventures here....

The ones I looked at had a split backstay. Good luck,

Re: 1972 v21 need help with rigging
MACGREGOR 21 / VENTURE 21: These boats have almost as much sail area as the 22, but are much lighter, they really don't need a 150% Genoa other than for racing, although they make great little race boats if you want to go that direction. Early model V21s had a simple 3 wire rig with no spreaders and the headstay only about 3/4 of the way up to the masthead. These boats were not rigged to run a 150% Genoa, just a 100% Jib....

Good Luck

Re: 1972 v21 need help with rigging
Early Venture 21 came stock with only upper shrouds, no spreaders, and no backstay. Fractional rig with big main and working jib. I've seen extra shrouds, spreaders and adjustable backstays added aftermarket. Also Big Genoas and spinnakers. Properly sailed the will go like a bat out of H@%$^.
Owned a 1968. Fair Winds and Full Sails...Old Salt.

Re: 1972 v21 need help with rigging
I've said it before I'll say it again - From what I've seen online - its kind of crazy for Venture 21's.
Some are cutter rigged with 2 fore-stays.
Some were sloop masthead rigged.
some were sloop fractional.
Some had only one fore-stay but that was back from the tip of the bow a foot or so.
Some were factory rigged for a spinnaker.
Its all over the place.
It might be better for you to post pics and let us comment. Doable?

Two ways:
1) Establish an account with Photobucket or one of the many other photo web hosting sites, upload a pic, and copy and paste the entire url it gives you for your pic, with the UBB code for images (img and /img) on each end. If you click the "Img" button in the Post A Reply screen, you can see what that code looks like. Or hit the "Quote" button on someones post that has a pic in it, and you'll see the format for the pic.
2) No account needed if you go to http://www.tinypic.com and upload a pic to that. It will return a url with the ubb code for images at each end, among other links (total of 4 links - use the one with the img and /img at the ends). Don't lose the url, or you can't get it back - there is no album function or anything. It's just a quick way to upload and post an image.
Paste it into you post with a blank line above and below for good formatting.
Click "Quote" on this post to see what it looks like behind the curtain.

Re: 1972 v21 need help with rigging

mig- Copy & Paste this part of the code: http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f240/ ... 22ecdc.jpg
then with it highlighted, click the Img button above the text window
Too many or too few characters in the code will not allow the image to post correctly. Click the "QUOTE button on the upper right of my post to see how it should look.
Keep trying!
