Help for restoring a MacGregor 26X, model year 2000

Post by eco »

Dear all, I am asking for your help.

I have just bought a MacGregor 26X, a 2000 model :macx:. The previous owner removed almost all sailing related parts from the boat. Supposedly, I was given "all" parts, but I am not sure.

I need your help in fitting the parts back to the boat. Please send me or post photos showing the rudder setup, and rigging details.

The boat is otherwise in a great condition. I have just finished cleaning the inside and it shines like new. I will soon take it out the water for taking care the hull of this beauty. With your help I will fit the sailing related parts in the original condition.

look under resources the headers and select manuals. You should find the manual for your 26X :macx: . in it you will find a section on the rudders.
Also, update your profile with your location.

welcome aboard and newbies buy the beer. :D

Thank you for your reply. I have already downloaded all manuals available here. The information is minimal, given that when a boat was shipped to the buyer, many of the parts are already attached on the boat and the assembly is almost intuitive.

I have managed to get photos scattered around the Internet, enough to realize that I am probably missing the rudder brackets (so far). I am going to check with the seller if he forgot them somewhere.

A complete set of photos from the same boat would be very helpful.

I was going to suggest you drop by and look at mine, but if you are going sailing you are either a glutton for punishment or not near here. :P

Here is a picture of the rudder brackets you requested. I will go through my pictures and find as much as I can that shows specific rigging and label it and send it to you. Image

This picture shows where the back stay attaches to the stern on the starboard side aft. It also shows how the rudder lines that lower and raise the rudder are secured at the stern.

Here is a close up of the rudders. The tubing is a little mod I added that keeps the rudders from getting scrapped on the rudder brackets when in the down position.

Here is a shot of the mast in the down position with the shrouds secured to the lifelines with a shot cord from the jib block. It also shows the spreader attached to the mast.

Wow. I also have 2000 X and the rudder brackets don't look anything like yours. Did they switch mid model year? I even think the rudders themselves are shaped differently.

Thanks for saying something. I was steaming ahead at flank speed. I should have said that my X is a 1998, so, yes, some things might be different. Perhaps, you can point out the difference for the guy refitting his 2000. I'll keep throwing pictures out there of my X's gear. If you see something that is different on the 2000 model, throw that out there. Don't want to confuse him. I was just remembering how complicated the boat seemed when I first got mine. I had to keep emailing the PO for guidance.

Here is a picture that shows my main sheet attached to the boom, the main sail reefed, my "boomkicker" and the boom vang (albeit secured a little too much  ).

This is a shot that shows the main sheet block system attached to the pedestal just ahead of the wheel.
