allrite,
I've had my 96X for three full seasons. I think I'm the third owner. One of the best buys of my life. If it looks good, will get you on the water, and does not hurt financially (I live a debt free life style) go for it. Be ready to dump some $ into in to it like new sails, standing and running rigging, electrical, ... Use this group often, they are great.

Re: Buying guide 26x 1996
Hi Ormomddude, I have the same old 1996 Macgregor 26x unique extra large rudders and steering system, large aluminum mounts as shown in picture. (found on google) Never had a problem with the steering system or the large mounts cracking. I was wondering if anyone ever found replacements for the rudders. Will the IDA's work with the old style rudder system with the holes drilled? Nice to know Im not the only person with this style 26x.
Thanks, dave

Dave, you might want to start a new thread on this question... this thread is now 2 years old and the title doesn't really apply to the information you're looking for.
