Re: Tire replacement on trailer
For members that are located near a Canadian Tire store, the "Mastercraft Digital Temperature Reader Product #57-4554-4" are on sale for $20 (from $100) - I think until June 8th.

Re: Tire replacement on trailer
2014 topic worth "bumping". For many of us, it's easy to have "new" looking trailer tires that are actually pretty old.

Re: Tire replacement on trailer
I know this has been discussed before; a good general rule of thumb is to check the tread depth or the wear indicators, but whatever method, tires should not be more than ten years old.

Re: Tire replacement on trailer
I've never had a tire on a boat trailer that showed any measurable wear absent another problem. Over-inflation, under-inflation, and alignment issues can cause noticeable wear but every (boat) trailer tire I've ever replaced still had great tread. It's always been the sidewalls that first showed their age.

Re: Tire replacement on trailer
Depending on one’s environment, they can dry rot. Cracks form on the sidewall.
I place the trailer on supports when Nice Aft is covered for the winter. It gets the tires off the ground.
I use something like this.

Interesting. I have jack stands like those.
What is the purpose of jacking up the trailer? Tires? Bearings?
Maybe I should do the same.

Re: Tire replacement on trailer
Jack stands to elevate trailer during off season storage helps avoid the tires taking on a ‘set’. More importantly they avoid the suspension system from taking on a ‘set’ (particularly important with the factory 26M trailer that has elastomer torsion springs). Closehaul

Ah.... thank. Good info. I think I'll go jack it up on stands.closehaul wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 9:54 pm Jack stands to elevate trailer during off season storage helps avoid the tires taking on a ‘set’.
