Spring Commissioning List Assistance

Post by Paulieb »

I have a couple of items on my Spring Commissioning list that I would like to run by the group for some assistance.

1) Replace the pee hole on my 2002 Honda BF50, I've read on this board there is a modified part number for this that is a lot larger than the factory hole. I've searched several times and can't find it. Hoping someone remembers who posted it, or maybe replaced it themselves.

2) Replace the porta-potti. Mine got a crack in it last season and needs to be replaced. Is there a good replacement that will fit the stock MacGregor mounts on the floor of the head.

Still way too cold here in upstate NY to even think about getting on the boat yet - but I can at least be ready when the weather breaks.

I replaced our head with this model from Porta-potti http://www.thetford.com/HOME/PRODUCTS/P ... fault.aspx

It has a nice seat height, electric pump flush (didn't change the batteries once last year) and fits well in our :macx:. You will need the new hold down bracket

Nice! I did not see that one in my search. How is the battery operated flush. Is that off the house battery, or does it have it's own batteries?

just simple old AA batteries. Easy to carry a few spares, but they last a long time

Here's a discussion about upgrading the indicator parts on this here forum from a few years back.

http://www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/v ... =7&t=12568

As to the porta-potti, I replaced mine last year with a Dometic - 964 MSD Portable Toilet 2.5 Gallon. I shoulda used the 5 gallon, as it sits higher, but I put it on a spacer so it sits at the same height as the 5 gallon version. I changed it mainly because I wanted the deck pumpout capability, for travel in Canadian waters (Ontario, specifically), but when I pulled the old one out, I discovered the holding tank was cracked. Nobody has ever used either of them on this boat, as I just use it for day sailing (with shore facilities when travelling), but the admiral won't go anywhere without a working head on board, so that brandy-new PP with pumpout connections sits there in the boat, still pristine.

Porta Potti also makes a pump out version to hook to extra holding tanks and macerator and a pump out. I have been considering doing this with a new 5 gallon PP. this would allow pump out where available as well as discharging OB where appropriate (we do not allow chemicals or paper in the PP either way) without adding holding tanks. The other option I've been considering is putting in a full marine head with a new holding tank under the V.

1) Can't help but I'm sure a Honda dealer can.

2) We replaced ours with a Dometic 5 gal PP http://www.amazon.com/Dometic-Portable- ... ble+toilet

I had to add new mounts, but no biggie. I will say that Dometic has great customer service. First time out, the base had a leak in the valve seal. I emailed Dometic on Sunday with the issue. Called on Monday and the woman on the phone said, "Oh, it's you....we've been talking about you." I'm thinking, I'm the joke of the morning. She went on to say, "in our meeting we were discussing who would handle your case." They sent a replacement (I still have the old one) and it works great. No cool battery flush, you have to pump it up and the button allows a water rinse.

Everyone has their own priorities. Pump outs are a bigger PITA to me than dumping this thing. I'm not going to Canada soon. I would rather have space than a holding tank.
Search this. It's a well discussed topic.

Paul,

Try this link to the pee hole discussion. I now can't wait to see some of the responses
