Maybe not? 8)

And Beene the US has had anti-pollution laws a lot longer than 40 years unlike the rest of us which is why you did not get things like this :)

Again it was not that a 4 stroke was superior to a 2 mechanically that let them push out 2s it was the pollution problems. Just because there are more 4s than 2s today is not a reason to state they are better just different :)

INSURANCE Reminder:
Check your insurance policy to see if over-powering your vessel nullifies your coverage.
Our 2000-X is rated at 50-HP, if we install anything over 50-HP certain claims may be declined.
Balance the risk.

I have used XD-100 from the beginning with my 08 E-tec 60.
I troll for hours with it. NO smoke, no stink
It starts on the first revolution of the crank.
It hole shots my deck mates X with a Merc BF 60
I finally used my first gallon of oil.
Excellent charging, even at idle.
Light weight power head does not stress steering linkage

BRP has perfected the E-tec dry sump oiling system and FI and are pushing 170HP in their XP 800cc snowmobile engines that get 40% better fuel and oil mileage than their 2 stroke competition. This is over a 4 year time period.

Etec's will run without oil and/or coolant for 5 hrs at reduced RPM.

Just another feature to consider.

After a year or so I switched to using the "XD-100" oil (ie. to the 100% synthetic)[for our E-tec 60 hp]. I did this primarily to make sure we were getting minimal smell of burnt oil in the exhaust (although it was never obnoxious on the less fancy oil): wives have sensitive noses. We are happy with the result. I echo Kadet's enthusiasm about the modest amount of XD-100 oil consumed: I keep a spare container in the hold, and only top up the oil reservoir once or twice a season even though we motor most of the time. I gather from our Evinrude dealer that most of his customers run the XD-100.

- cos that is minimal oil usage!!
i do realise its not just a simple change over- and requires a systems tech to do the change over
thanks
I am still using the 30-1 mix for the fact you stated - I need to pay a frigging Evinrude dealer to make the change and I have not been in for service yet.

-please forgive the use of the term"mix" just old habits die hard- i am aware that it is not the old fashioned "mix"

Has anyone ever seen a real comparison of the Evinrude XD-100 oil with the WM TC-W3 Direct Fuel Injection oil? I really wonder, considering that there are only so many oil manufacturers out there, if the XD-100 is sold as an off brand. Really, WM does not manufacture oil - who makes their TC-W3 Direct Fuel Injection oil?

I run TC-W3 because it's overall cheaper than running XD-100. Yes, you use 1/3 less oil running XD-100 but it costs at least twice as much as even full synthetic TC-W3, and it's never at the fuel dock you're pulling up to. I'm not a fan of keeping a lot of oil on board, because I don't like to keep fuels or oils inside the boat, and there's very little space for it topside. Oil is also deadly to the fuel tanks if you spill it on them--it will eat the fuel tank plastic away.

When I get my motor serviced, I'll have it switched to the XD-100 setting, and then run fully synthetic TC-W3 (since that's all XD-100 actually is) or XD-100 depending on what's cheapest and available.

If you google Illegal two stroke outboards, you will see that legislation is heading in that direction weather we/manufactures like it. I have owned several 2 stroke motorcycles and raced professional four stroke super bikes. The 2 stroke dirt bikes are a dying breed, they are all going to 4 stroke even on the race circuit.

4 strokes are less maintenance in the long-run, and will last longer in the long-run. Yes cars are a different engine, but in the world of cars and motor sports, 4 strokes are the only way to go, even in ski-doo's.

With emissions controls becoming tighter and tighter, we will see the end of 2 strokes... nothing but lawnmowers and chainsaws left. it is the inevitable, but I sure will miss that light weight, high power, loud smell of two stroke blue smoke I used to have in a dirtbike.

The E-Tec Engines have set new standards in clean emissions. They are cleaner than the 4 strokes. That's one of their stronger selling points

Of course, for all practical purposes, the E-TEC technology has given birth to an altogether new breed: the engine's performance relies heavily on a computer. No longer can one fix it with a couple of wrenches, spittle, and a screwdriver. Can't compare apples to pineapples.

I agree, tried to put on a 90hp Suzuiki and no one would install it on a MacX. I went with the Bigfoot 50hp.
Much different than the Honda 50 I replaced. Steering much harder. Performance excellent to 18mph in a very heavy loaded boat.
I need to change to a different steering, like the Teleflex/ Uflex.
Very rare times I can do above 20mph. So the 50 hp is just fine and like the 18 amps charging over the Honda 10 amps. Also the bigger Diamiter prop is much better .
The Etec 60 Johnson would have been great, again no one will install here in SW FL.
Might add I mainly cruise at 2500 rpms and get 8mpg. @ 6mph. or 5.3 knots.
Doing 7mph I get 5.5 mpg.Thats in flat waters.
So much better fuel at 6mph.

I have never seen a 2 stroke outboard that runs cleaner than a 4 stroke engine and that includes the Etec.
The new 10% ethonal breaks down a lot faster than Reg. Gas.
Even if using any type fuel additive, and I used them all will cause lacure build up.
I have used, seafoam,Gas-Shok(marine product) and others.
Results after 10 mo. the ethanol breaks up leaving small black particals in the gas tank, this clogs the fuel filter strainer.
Even gas treatments cannot prevent this.
Always run outboard till it runs dry of fuel, if left in tank fuel over 10 mo. even with fuel additive ,ck fuel tank bottom, if you see black spots you need to take fuel tank out and flush with new gas, also your fuel filter.
Main reason for running the outboard dry is no left over fuel can varnish your carb? injection needles.
It's easy to flush out a tank but leave fuel in carbs or injections is a BIG NO.
Hope this helps.
