First trip ever with a brand new 2002 X today

Today, 04/17/2005, our brand new 2002 X was in the water for the first time ever. It was cold weather but i coulnt wait more. At least the ice has been gone for over a week her where i live.

Looks like you have a wonderful crew to help you out. I am also very anxious to get my new to me boat (98X) in the water soon. Just a few more projects to complete before the boat is ready.

So the ice has broken up? I feel wimpy for not getting out today just because of a little rain. I picked up a 26M last month, been in the water 4x, and can't wait to get back out. Sailing's new to me, and the Mac has been a great boat.

And this forum has been a great resource!
(I'll be posting my "mod" soon, handsoap dispensor taped to head wall)

Hi MSS,

We just took out "New" 26x (owned for one week) to Catalina Island and back (26.4 miles or about 40 ks). Everything worked well. If you're ever in southern California, come visit for a sail.

The boat was shipped to Sweden in the spring of 2002. The Swedish dealer used it on diffrent boat shows untill the spring of 2003 and then it was stored. Me and my wife was looking after a new 26M but the M is just a little bit to heavy and the X is just inside the limit for towing around in Sweden after a standard car with a standard drivers licens. We was talking with the dealer and he offerd us to buy his 26X showboat. This was in november 2004 and when we picked it up it was snowing and we towed it for about 200km after a Volvo V70. Now we has bougt a Land Rover and it feals much more safe. I was even abel to load it on the trailer with the ballast tank filled with water.

The temperature was about 45F or 7C.

Also note the triangular warning sign on the mast, as well as the two triangular lights added to the boat's hull.. interesting! I assume the thin white wire from the car to the boat is for those lights? Strange that they are not on, given the car's lights are on, though...???

Mattias, can you please give us a close-up of that plaform you have near where the motor mounts (the aft portion just behind/below the captain's seat) - looks to be a nice addition and I'd like to see how it was done.

Also would like to see a close-up of the bowsprit modifications as well. Thanks!!

I Think the triangular lights are no lights but reflectors only. You see these a lot in Europe. I too like that platform Mattias, If the dealer has a mold of that I'd be very interested in that.

I thought that too, Pouw, but if you look really carefully in the blown-up version of the aft picture you can see what looks like white wires running from those lights, up over the back of the boat, and along to the bow. I guess we'll have to wait for Mattias to solve the mystery!

In Sweden, and in other countries too I think, we have a lot of silly rules. The small triangular are reflectors and shows the cars behind you that its a trailer. The big triangular means that this is a slow going vehicle traveling in speed below 17mph. The wires are for lights not yet mounted when the pictures were taken. A US axle, brakes and lights are not good in Europe so a garage later replaced them for just a little money, about 4500USD. They also removed the paint and applied a layer of Zinc (Zn?). I can now legally tow the trailer in 50mph - 80Km/h.

Tomorrow I will take some photos of the bowsprit and the platform and post here.

Folks, that is towing a mac on ice and snow..... with what looks like no chains ......

admittedly he said it was above freezing.... but that has got to be a delicate art to drive on ice with a boat trailer with surge brakes...

And People thought I pushed the envelope.....lol
