Dave ..have a real good look over your hitch and ball and frame on your tow beast. You could easily been towing 10,000 pounds with 3 feet of water in that boat. Make sure nothing got damaged!

Re: I'm back...Bimini top and many upgrades
No worries, did that, and hitch is fine....was a short tow with the van, mostly flat...
We dropped it off with my neighbors truck, and then this morning at 5am we drove to the coast and brought "Small Steps" out of the water for the first time in a year or so...
Had to put it back and raise the roller pillars up one notch and then she was good....packed it up and 2 hours back....

Very Dirty

Pressure washing the yuch off the bottom....It smells like I am washing down an old whore

Well, it looks like it needs a lot of TLC. But I've seen what you can do and I'm confident this will look great when you are done.
Keep us posted with progress pics.
This picture shows the trailer tongue with a lot of weight on it. Maybe just a bad photo, but the boat might not be centered correctly over the wheels. Not sure if you have a way of adjusting that.

Re: I'm back...Bimini top and many upgrades
Russ the boat is fine....it's all the crap that was in my neighbors truck wasn't helping.
It towed home 2 hours straight and true doing about 65 mph
We will not be towing it again anyway....the next time it leaves the yard will be with a new owner.
Sorry guys, no interest in keeping the O'day. It's too heavy for what I do right now....and there is no way my Van (E-150, 5.0) could haul it out since it is only 2wd. I can tow this one, but launching I doubt it, and hauling out forget it. It's too large for a "quick" day at the lake. And setting up the lake mast will be more difficult since it is a two pin mast step...I love the Venture23, it will be staying for a while.
It's not in bad shape at all, if you look past the Brady Bunch color scheme inside it is actually clean and dry inside, and quite roomy.
It sat in a slip for the last two years so it doesn't have any holes in it. The Guy sailed it just last weekend.
Apparently it was due for it's 2 year haul out and bottom job, so I think I see some of his motivation for the trade for the 16 foot boat.
I blasted it yesterday with the pressure washer and ended up with this

You all know that pressure washing is simply the fastest way to transfer the dirt from one object to all over yourself right? what fun!
He included a gallon of bottom paint...I may do it, or I may just inform the owner that I have "prepped it" and here's a can of paint have fun.
Pulled these two sails out of the crackboat....no mainsail but looks like a jib and a rolling jib (Genoa??) but they are CLEAN and in Excellent shape as they were luckily stored above the waterline INSIDE the crackboat. See the New Bimini sitting on the Venture23 in the background? It's just sitting there, not attached yet.

The fellow who owns the marina came out to chat (nice guy) when we pulled the O'day out. He says the trailer I scored is "Extremely Nice" and that after we clean the boat up we could get $6k. I'm not so sure, we were thinking about $4k. Also might put in the CL ad that if they don't want the trailer we will drop it in their marina, keep the trailer, and start hunting for a new project.
meanwhile, the boat storage barn has thrown up!

I ordered the cable for the Garmin GPS Map 498 that I scored in another boat a friend wants me to sell....he had the unit, no cable, came with the boat. It works, so soon the Venture23 will have GPS
more to come, and soon it will be about the Venture23 as I start adding all these upgrades.
Cheers
Dave

to engineer81,
watching with real interest, your enthusiasm is infectious. As I am reworking a VN 1978, a lot more slowly than you, I will be interested to see how you do and hope to compare notes on some things. Seems like you are getting a lot on your plate and I hope the Oday does not distract you from the Venture. Be careful of becoming addicted to the crackboats.

This is what happens to a 27 foot Crack boat when you give it to some country bumpkins down the road after the Lead to re-cycle

The Johnson Sailmaster 9.9 should be running soon
cheers

I bet there are some itchy bumpkins. Cutting that stuff up leaves lots of glass particles.81venture wrote:![]()

Re: I'm back...Bimini top and many upgrades
I know! Glad its not me
A lesson for anyone here if you are wanting to get rid of a crackboat hull....post it on FREE in Cl...the scrappers will fight to get it
Meanwhile, the Johnson Sailmate from the Crackboat is finished and runs great.... It sat for over 10 years.
going to put it on the O'day and keep that nice Yammie-haw for future or maybe for mine (not sure about weight)
Whats the max weight for the venture23 motor?
bueller? bueller??
Cheers mates...

Thanks. I do work pretty fast when I get going.
I bought, stripped, and got rid of the 27 foot crackboat in less than 48 hours
A lot of the gear from the crackboat is going up for sale on CL. If someone here sees something in the pictures they are interested in drop me a pm and we can work something out.
The O'day is now cleaned up and posted for sale on CL at $4500 <br>
I hope she will go soon.
Then this thread will get back to being about the Venture23.....I have a lot of upgrades going into her soon including a GPS system and possibly the Auto-pilot
Today I am going to clean out the Boat barn and re-orginize/catalog the stuff....
Please keep your comments coming. I enjoy reading your replies as much as you guys enjoy reading about this adventure....4500 views and only RussMT and Catigle seem to have anything to say (??)
cheers

Isn't it amazing how these simple motors keep running. I wonder if this is true for the more complex electronics dependent motors.81venture wrote:JOhnson 9.9 Going on the O'day

My Seadoos have complicated supercharged and injected motors. I need to rebuild the supercharger because BRP engineered these things with ceramic washers that when overheated and fail, will shatter into shards right into the motor intake and destroy the motor. Jet pumps that will not work at all if the gap between impellers is greater than the thickness of a sheet of paper.
Yet that motor of yours starts right up.

I HATE jetskis's
I have worked on them before...
They are fun to ride (someone else's) for about 20 minutes and I am done!
I've got a big pile of stuff I am about to post on CL to sell (and get rid of)
ya'll want me to post a pic here? see if you want anything?
cheers

Known as the infamous "Wear Ring" and is a "Maintenance issue" for the owner according to the "specs"
yeah, sure....hate em!
