Beware of hollow axle

Post by Skcscuba »

I bought my 95 x several years ago. The trailer looked sound and in good repair, but was used in saltwater. I started on a 60 mi road trip and pulled in a gas station to double check the tire pressure and the entire wheel assembly separated started rolling in a different direction. No significant coorosion outside, but completely rusted out inside. Check your axles folks! They are made of mild steel tube.

I've had amazing success treating mild steel with waxoil. I've never used it in salt water, but I'm sure it would help at least a bit.
