Seems like bridges are to be "beaten" at all costs.

I've done alot of dumb things in my life but........that was just STOOOOOPID.
And the 2nd boat was well on its way to being even STOOOOPIDER.
They got what they asked for. Hope it was worth it.

If they got thu - they saved what? 15-30 minutes. What does having a broken mast cost them in time?

Guns Drawn, going to clear the Draw.
Sailor gets Dismasted but lives to another day and Learns the art of calcul
ations.
Morgan Out Islander 33 with a 50 hp Perkins. Flank Speed.
Might add, Capt'n was 4 sheets to the wind and maybe 5th.

Re: slow down take your time
Why do I have to learn everything the hard way
Good thing macgregors aren't the only white sailboats with a black stripe, or we'd all be painted with the same brush.
I was astounded at the buoyancy of the boat, for a moment you can see the bridge trying to push it deeper into the water.
I think they were probably a wee bit frightened
The second boat was definitely trying to go for it, they were even gaining on the first boat but "wised up" sooner.
Thanks to the internet there's no more anonymity for our mistakes
Patience, Patience, Patience and an ounce of caution is better than 21ounces of "courage"

Re: slow down take your time
The idiot was very lucky that mast didn't come down on their heads! Manslaughter can take many forms.
Strange the bridge operator didn't halt, or reverse the process. There were no cars in motion at that point, and they are supposed to maintain an awareness of vessel proximity. If the mast top had been pinched instead, the engine power would probably have tucked the stern under the water before ripping the whole assembly out of the boat. Lucky rabbit - Tricks are for kids!

Re: slow down take your time
I noticed the boat started a left turn before the final moment of impact. Check it out. It appears to have caused the mast to fall slightly to the left away from the cockpit, landing on the port side of the boat and avoiding injuries to the occupants. If the boat collided head-on, the mast could have fallen directly on the cockpit.
