Brake Pads

Post by Mac26Mpaul »

Anybody know where/if I can get brake pads for the DB35 UFP brakes here in Oz.
The $120 postage from this site seems a bit excessive :(

It would be far cheaper to simply have your old ones re-surfaced, take them to any brake shop, most can do it for you.

I'm just going to sand the rotors as smooth as possible as it still just seems like surface rust mostly.

The pads on the other hand are completely knackered with the pads either broken or completely missing and a couple of the backing plates very rusted.

I definitely need to source some pads unfortunately...

My Master cylinder also seized when I pushed the hand brake in the other day, and I am now ordering a new one from fleabay. Apparenly its quite common for them to seize with lack of use, so I've leant my lesson on that one - If your not using the boat for a while, at least pump the hand break now and again to get that cylinder moving...

$100+ for a set of pads was just too rich for me.
$35 posted was more like it..

Yes you have to shop around Paul, I am in the market for a new Jib, so far I have been quoted from $580 to $1400 for what appears to be the same sail? wow that's a big difference, fleabay unfortuantely cant help me out on this one though. Cheers, Dennis.

check other posts on the forum. I believe the pads are the same as on a Kia Sephia. Might just be able to go to your parts store and pick them up

Thanks Paul, yes already got a set as per an earlier post.

As to cheaper sails, someone recently emailed me about a Hong Kong based sailmaker that is supposed to make great stuff much cheaper than Aus.

Heres part of the email:
"RECEIVED my SAILS FROM CHINA (Hong Kong)
you may be interested , the sails are ABSOLUTELY perfect , with so much detail and finishing work.
cant fault them , realy cant.
Main , fully batterned with sunstop / sunbrella completed sail cover included , all sail slugs fitted -----US$ 548
Genoa , roller furler type with sunstop / sunbrella sun furling strip -----------------------------------------------US$ 653
Air freight door to door $200 7 days from wo to go.
sailmakers are LEE SAILS who have been making GREAT sails for 50 years.
Top American sailcloth ---- treble stitched as per my request.
I bought a Genoa off them for my 2nd 60 foot ketch some 30 years ago.
Great then , Perfect now."
