Towing behind a 26M

Post by Tempus »

We bought our :macm: largely to have a sail boat that allows a rapid return to the ramp at no-notice due to certain medical conditions. Going full steam ahead care of 60 horses is useful when required, but definitely isn't our preferred mode of travel. HOWEVER! Our adult children are more taken with the notion of being dragged around by burning dinosaurs rather than sailing care of solar energy. The question is whether many of you fellow Mac-ers use the Mac's towing capacity.

We were looking at some of those inflatable devices that can be towed, but I'm just not sure how effective they'd be. While Mr Mac sells his boats saying that they can tow a water skier, I think it'd be a fairly slow-ish ride and a wake-board probably wouldn't get onto the plane.

Any thoughts, comments, suggestions?

I would like to add one question to this post too, if you tow, where do you tie the tow lines? The rear cleats dont look up to task, do you need to fit new, bigger cleats or even a ski pole somewhere? maybe a rope around the top of the mast. :D But seriously, if you use the cleats on a "Y" rope then cornering will place all load on a single cleat, that cant be good?

Cheers, Dennis.

Considering, with my 50hp ETEC, I generally get between say 9 and 13 knots at WOT, just towing an emtpy fibreglass tender I doubt it would give many thrills to an older kid being towed on a tube. Still, when my kids get a few years older, I intend to give it a try.....

You will get a much better response to these questions by asking on the main forum...
