The Canadian-built Bounty's home port is Greenport, NY.

Apparently the deceased was a descendent of Fletcher Christian.

With dozens of towering tulip poplars all around the house (trees which have virtually no roots!), I *know* I'm going to be using it. I'm just hoping they don't fall on the house, but if they do we have a monster tarp at the ready (we use it for collecting and dragging leaves) and a box of roofing nails.
Not good. May they all fall AWAY from the house. Looks like a lot of junk over your house right now. Hope all is safe and sound.

A buddy's marina in Sea Bright, NJ earlier today. Hard to tell which boats are in slips and which are on the hard.

Wind is blowing VERY hard here in Ambler. Power has gone out, but my 11,000 watt Honda generator is doing it's job nicely and all systems are 'go'. So far, no trees down that I know of, but with the wind going as it is I think it's only a matter of time. Let's hope whatever falls misses the house. Cars normally in the driveway have been relocated to a large, open parking lot nearby. Antique cars are in their garage and I'm praying nothing falls on them. The boats are on their own in the driveway... let's hope!

kmclemore wrote:We're ready here, but all the same I'm a wee bit worried... when you look on those maps that show the storm path, our house is quite literally right on the red storm path line. The main thing I'm really concerned about is the trees... they tend to fall over, and we have a LOT of trees.
We used to have a lot of trees -- until the last two hurricanes hit Southern Maryland. Because of those storms, and my wife's smart preventative measures, we now have far fewer trees -- but every one is at least some risk.

As much as I love trees, I wish they would stand a little shorter and be a little farther away from my house!

Happily, I pulled 'Breaking Wind' last Saturday. Too bad about the Bounty. Maybe we should get up a Mac flotilla later this week for a salvage mission...

100% of the homes in our township are now without power at this point.

Generator still running beautifully... thank you Honda!
According to Upper Dublin Township Manager, Paul Leonard, the entire township is without power tonight. PECO is reporting that approximately 8,300 homes in the township are without power.

The Upper Dublin Police and Fort Washignton Fire Department have logged over 100 calls since the high winds began, at approximately 2:30 p.m.

There are multiple trees and wires down throughout the township from the high winds and, even though the high winds are to subside as the night progresses, Leonard told Patch that they can still cause damage.

He said the township is continuing service to remove downed trees and clean up downed wires, however there are a few situations where the township must wait until PECO comes out to asses the situation.

Leonard told Patch that there have been three to four situations in Upper Dublin with trees into homes that emergency responders will not be able to assess unit morning. He also stated there is at least one property that lost their entire roof and multiple reports of chimneys collapsing.

The Township is asking that the major employers in the township not open for business on Tuesday, or to delay opening to at least noon.

Leonard added that there has been very minimal flooding in the area and no injuries have been reported.

Did you buy the generator for the Mac, or for the home? Or both?

BTW, how exactly do you use a generator to power your home? Where do you plug it in?

Glad to hear that you appear to be safe Kevin. No damage to house, cars, boats?

I just spoke to a friend in NJ who drove by a marina that had rack storage and boats on the lot. All the lot boats and first row on the rack floated away and are strewn all over the place. Yikes!

Knowing Kevin to be a clever guy, my guess is he has a transfer switch. I had on on my last house so I could run the well pump from the genset. Plug generator into it and switch from city power to generator. Runs whole house just about.

Boats on the tracks in Pt. Pleasant NJ. I know a guy who kept his boat near here. I hope his boat isn't gone.

I bought the generator I'm talking about expressly for the house. It weighs about 900 lbs. I have a smaller Honda EU1000i for the boat, which I loaned last night to some friends nearby to run their fridge.

For the house we have an 11KW Honda V-Twin generator wired to the house through a VERY thick cable that goes to a special distribution / cut-over panel. I didn't want an automatic generator, so I need to manually start it (key start). When power goes I just start it up, then cable it in, and then flip the switches on the panel to cot over to the generator from the usual mains power. Meters on the unit tell me how much power I'm using per circuit. It was all installed by an electrical contractor friend and works well.
