Well everone & his mother is diverting or draining off water from all the Great Lakes for every thing from drinking water to keeping shipping lanes open from the St. lawrence to the Mississippi River to dam projects & evey basin that gets dredged & with no snow last winter & no rain all summer what da yer expect !!!robbarnes1965 wrote:We have had incredibly low water-levels in the Montreal region. Out water comes from Lake Ontario and the Ottawa river. The St-Lawrence seaway has had a challenge to keep levels good for shipping while not drying out lakes.Hudson Yacht Club in lake of two mountains started to take boats out of the water in July!
It's hard to know what the cause is. The trend toward a drying in N.American lakes has been around a long time however. Long before we were around. Not saying we are not responsible for accelerating it though...

Interesting point. I am told that where I live in the middle of the continent, the long term trend is for warmer and drier. I had not considered the effects on any of the Great Lakes.
I was kind of looking forward to the warmer part ...
