My 1998 Doyle jib did not have any kind of extra UV strip on it; I had Doyle put a standard black strip on shortly after I started using it regularly instead of the Genoa. I had to have it restitched about a year ago. I have left my boat in the water at marina slips most of the 8 years I have owned it, and that is in Florida sun! But the sail is in great shape, so I think it is worth getting the strip sewn on.
