New 26M Video
I actually wrote Dave on this subject since I felt the weight (as pointed out by Moe) was way off. Then I started to think about what the real weight should be. Should we compare X vs M as most are equipped? Then the X should have 10 gal of water vs 5 for the M. The X carries maybe 15 gal of fuel vs 24 for the M. The Tohatsu 50 two stroke on the X is quite a bit lighter than the M's Suzi, Honda, Yamaha, etc. 50 or the Suzi 70 which is popular here in the Puget Sound. The more I looked at this I was not sure the data for the X was right either. Dave depends on users of the site to update the data--he never responded to my e-mail. Maybe this would be a good project for the engineers on this site.
Tom, we think alike. Last night I started working on a spreadsheet that calculates all this stuff. I used 5 gallons water for the M and 10 for the X, and 18 gallons (MacGregor spec) for X fuel and 24 gallons for the M fuel. I also added rows for additional water and additional fuel, that will be set at zero initially. I also included a 3 gallon Sani-Potty since comparable boats may come with a head as standard equpment. I'm also adding a row for additional equpment, so anchoring, docking, safety gear, food, tools, etc can be put in. It's initially set to zero.
Another thing I did is subtract out 50 lbs from the bare boat weight for the centerboard/daggerboard, and put it in a separate row so it could be added to the water ballast. I also subtracted 300 lbs from the M bare boat weight and put it in a separate row for permanent ballast. That way the X will have 1400 lbs water ballast and 50 lbs board weight, and the M will have 1150 water ballast, 300 permanent ballast, and 50 lbs board weight. That will give a more accurate ballast/displacement ratio.
Got stuff I have to do today, but I'm still working on it. I think it'll be a nice tool for those who have Excel to see what the numbers come out to with various changes.

Im capable of sliding my boat through worm holes with its white hull.It must be the blue hull that warps the time continuum through thermal molecular excitement and gives the M a spaceage teflon advantage. If you believe that, I have a turbo charged teflon dingy for sale.
Once again, I find that through meditating over a sweet bottle of cheap wine sometimes I can get there before I left and when truly necessary I can be in two places at the same time. even with the white hull.I think a blue 26X would be faster than a white 26M
Just read my paperwork at work sometime.
Some other variables I can think of are:
1. Engines
2. Cushions in cockpit
3. Ground tackle
4. Large vs. small porta potti
5. Weight of stoves and fuel in galley.
6. Weight of Dodger/bimini.
7. Weight of required and recommended safety gear: fire extinquisher, flares, pfd's. binoculars, radios, chartplotters etc.
I am assuming the weight in the Mac Brochures is the OEW (Operating Empty Weight) rather than Curb Weight (if such a term is appropriate for boats!)
Moe, were you thinking of developing the spread sheet for users on this board to play with or did you plan to submit the results to Dave?
Bill, do you know if the weight of the "M" changed with the '05 model vs the '03/'04?

Tom, I emailed you yesterday, through your email link in your profile, a link to the draft version of the spreadsheet. I had to guess at the I and J measurements, since it's raining cats and dogs, and I didn't get the tarp off the X this weekend. But I think they're close. I'm thinking it would best be put out here on the forum, for peer review, before sending it elsewhere to non-Mac sources. I consider you, as an X AND M owner, to be a most valuable resource for comparison.

Herman Wadler has many of the Mac stats on his website, Wadler Org.
The hull and sail dimensions are there, for sure. Look on his "Sails by Boat" page to see the LP for each foresail. I'm not sure that's the same as "J", but maybe you can derive from there.

Frank, from what I understand, the working jib leech is a little longer than the I, and the foot a little longer than the J, such that the foretriangle area is about 85% of the working jib area. I took Bill's 10'5" guess at the J and got 21.21' for the I when calculating 85% of the MacGregor published area for the working jib.
