Finally got my 26D I've been hunting for. One problem is there is some staining on the sides like it had been sitting in the water for a while at one point. See the yellow waterline in the picture?
Would anyone have any suggestions on a proven way to clean it up without damaging the fiberglass gelcoat? The finish is pretty good so I want to protect it for as long as possible.
Initially I was thinking of using something like what is used on sink faucets (nylon Brillo pad etc.) but thought that might be too abrasive. Also worried about what chemicals to use. I know some can stain or damage further.
Good luck! I had similar looking crud after a river trip. I got it off with SoftScrub and lemon juice. It is not "very" abrasive and the acid in the lemon juice got the color off. It is non toxic and cheap, use a bunch.
I saw a video on YouTube about oxalic acid. (Check that name) Wow. I have since got some but decided to slip my boat this year and practice sailing. I do plan to remove the bottom paint and clean the (rust or what ever that is?) off the hull before I reseal it.
Here is a link to youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IER1gzjLizM
Good luck.
I am restoreing a 1976 V 21. Most products you can find require lots of one ingreadient missing from the can..... ELBOW GREASE! I have owned boats for over 45 years and have found west marine to have good products for most situations. Remember, not only cream but scum rises to the top.

I found this on the PHRF website. It looked nothing like it does after I hit Paste. But you get the idea. I don't know what it means though.
