Organizing lines in the cockpit

We use the 3M hooks all over the inside of the cabin and hang bags from them for storage. Work great!

Walked up and down the docks today, and the most expensive, newest sailboat, a 28' mark II Catalina was using line bags to control and keep out of sight her cockpit lines. It looked sharp and functional.

This yacht has a sail contained inside the mast. Never seen that before.

On the main halyard, the cleverest solution is Colonel Kings continuous loop combination up/down halyard with zero cockpit spaghetti. He owns the patent on it, so send him a Jackson if you implement it.

Last year I posted my pictures of my horn cleats at the front of the cockpit...boat came from Original Owner with 2 bolted directly to the fiberglass on each side. That wasn't enough for all my lines led aft so this Spring I built two "cleat mounts" (one with three and one with four horn cleats) and mounted them. They work well for me. This way I can coil and hang my left over bit of halyard (line closest to hatch on starboard), dagger board, spinnaker halyard, spinnaker tack line (next three on starboard) and on Port (single line reef closest to hatch and then furling line). My Genoa sheets and Main sheets do sit on the floor or loosely coiled on the seats while sailing. When motoring I coil these lines and hang them from the cleats as well.

This solution is really brilliant. It looks neat, and I'm betting you could put a really sturdy backing plate behind the cleats for added strength.

So, where do I send the Jackson's?

I have two of these in the cockpit up against the bulkhead, secured via the handle to the stanchion with a Velcro Strap. I like the smaller pockets on the outside for stowing cameras, cell phones, power bars, etc. I put larger items like, Binoculars, lunch, hats, jackets, winch hadles etc ... in the main pocket. I got these on Amazon for $7.00 each. They are made of heavy canvas and should last a long time. I like them better than the marine versions which are expensive, and shallow ... plus there's not enough room on smaller boats like the Mac 26, for them.

You can donate the Jackson's to Heath in support of this forum.

You can see the "backing plates" in the picture...they are the two pieces of wood on the table just above the cleat mounts and they are labeled "3" and "4" so I knew which one went where.

And they work very well.

I ordred and installed a couple sheet bags on the bulkhead from http://www.stowmate.com/shop/pc/viewCat ... ategory=19
which did the trick for me. Its easy to just stuff the lines in after a tack, so they are not in the way.
I also have the one for on the mast which works well to keep all the loose lines and such in one neat place

I sail in a fairly narrow waterway so coiling them up is a hassel since I use them a lot for tacking so I used color tape to identify the lines since I didn't want to buy more lines right now - used small pieces to mark the line every foot or so. Used - obviously - red for the port genoa line, green for starbord genoa, blue for the traveler, yellow for the aft main line and black for the haul down. The hooks others use work nicely for the haul down and main lines since I don't use them a much. When I need new lines, the color coded ones are a sure bet.
