LED running lights

I replaced all my running lights with LEDs. The bow 2 color light looks a bit odd. The green is TOO bright or too "bluish". I've heard it mentioned that a "warm white" LED is what is needed to produce the true green/red from this fixture. So I found this thing on Amazon.

$15 with free Prime shipping. Pretty good price compared to the boat tax folks. It came today and looks great when I powered it up. Very bright and produces the warm color I expect will work well with the running lights.

Please excuse this possibly silly question, but it has been awhile since I looked at the bulb for the bow light.

Are you saying that this light fits the housing for the factory supplied bow light, and that it is the same amount (or greater) of lumens?

I changed also to LED, and the ends are "sharpend"

Hummm interesting point...If in fact ( and it does appear to be such) I guess you could Crazy Glue a BB top and bottom for securing the bulb? Hummm would it be worth the effort versus cost and reliability?

Aqua Signal Series housings uses Dimple/Barrel End LED Bulb.
Hella Marine Series housings uses Cone End Festoon Bulbs.

NO Need to glue anything, just pull the existing incandescent bulb, note the end type, and it's length in mm and "Google" away.
Yes, warm white for "Bi-Color" Housings.

I'll have to measure the LED bulb versus the original incandescent bulb. It looks about the same size. If not, I'm sure I can bend the bracket slightly to make it fit.

I don't know if the $15 LED is as good as the $30 models. I powered it up and it's VERY bright (blinded me for a few mins). It certainly is more reliable than a single filament bulb it's replacing. Warm white works well in colored lenses.

I want to get replacement bulbs for my nav , mast and cabin lights. The more I read the more confused I get. Does anyone know what type bulbs to look for while I'm at Strictly Sail? I think the mast light is a festoon but not sure what size. I also think the aqua-signal bulbs are BA9s. Not sure about the cabin lights. I am making a list of thing to look for at the show. Hope to see some of you there.

All my running lights on my '08 M are 44mm festoon bulbs. That includes the steaming light.

All my cabin lights were BA9s.
I replaced them with something like this $6.00. Did I mention I hate paying the boat tax?

And the standard bulb got HOT after a short time illustrating how much energy is going to heat.

So the LED bulb was able to be a replacement for the festoon bulb without any problems? Was there any information on the packaging about lumens?

Is the festoon bulb in the M steaming light the same as the one in the X? Maybe I should look for a combo steaming/deck light and use the DPDT switch to alternate between the two on the same wire. I apologize if I am hijacking this thread.

I'm probably going to go out and visit the boat tomorrow and try it. As I recall, it pinches from top/bottom between two metal thingies that hold the bulb in place, so I anticipate a good fit. My last LED (pure white) fit right in. I'll bring a camera.

No lumens rating. I've come to doubt lumens ratings with my experience with projector equipment. Side by side, it's brighter than the OEM festoon tungsten bulb. You can sort of see the white background in the photo (above) is illuminated wider on the LED replacement.

Hey, it's not stamped "Marine Grade" with the associated boat tax. For many of us who are lake and coastal boaters, marine/aircraft grade is a price decision. My guess is this puppy is from the same factory in China that the boat store buys them from.

LEDs are a great mod. The difference in power is HUGE.

I just orderd two. One for the bow and one for my anchor light. Has anyone had trouble getting their bow light off ? After loosening the screw I can't get the top (black) off.
