Gentlemen i need ur help

Post by D-Hemi »

hello guys i have been here reading up on all your knowledge over the years and i am now in the position to buy a boat. The problem i have is that i have never been on a :macm: or :macx: and i really would like to look one over and maybe go on a couple hour sailing tour on one to help with my decision to buy. I am a rookie and really can use the knowledge you guys have. I am willing to travel and pay for the time to whoever is willing to help me with this big decision. I live in Rochester, NY and can be reached at dennis @ autofinishers.com or djh127 5@ rochester.rr. com if anyone can help me. Thank you gentlemen once again

Hi Dennis I'm in Buffalo and would like to help but my boat is put away for the year. It's locked in a farmers barn and hard to get at over the winter. The closest dealer to us to see a boat is Dowser Marine in Hamilton, Ontario. They have a boat in their showroom. If your married I would take your wife to Niagara-on-the-Lake first and then make a side trip to Hamilton to see the boat when she's relaxed and in a good mood.Thats what I did and it worked like a charm. After seeing the boat I ended up buying thru a dealer on the Internet. I would be more than happy to take you out next May and show you how to rig the boat and test sail it.

Concur with Kacey on all points. Mine too came out of the water just yesterday and is on its way to a farm after a winterizing.

I made several trips to Dowsar Marine in Hamilton to sit in their :macm: though I ended up buying an :macx:

And yes, definitely take The Admiral to Niagara-on-the-Lake. (Though I'd check on Dowsar's hours. You may have to do Dowsar on Saturday and NotL on Sunday.)

Dennis, if you go for the Hamilton/Niagara on the Lake run I'm about halfway between those two with my :macm: bagged and covered in the driveway. We also visited Dowsar and our annual Toronto boat show (coming up) before doing the same thing, and importing our new model ourselves, from Arkansas. If you didn't get enough time in Hamilton you could stop for a beer (or two) and a meal and you could squeeze yourself under the covers for a while and 'play boat'!
We're about twenty minutes off the highway (QEW) at Vineland in North Pelham. If it's snowing, you'd have to bring a beer warmer. :D

If you want to fly out to San Diego, I'd be happy to show you mine and ask a friend with an X to show you his. I doubt you'll find someone in your neck of the woods who would put their boat in the water at this late date.

You have hit the nail on the head, getting on the boat, and better yet, a boat in the water is the only real way to see exactly what they are like. Reading, photographs and even video, does not give you the same expirence as touching the boat. Best of luck to you as you figure out what you want.

Lots of members in Florida and the sailing down there is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IMHO Any Time is ALWAYS a Good Time to go on a Vacation :D I have had a few toys in my life ( custom built no kits ... go fast Cars and Motorcycles) and been active in a number of sports over the years..I Snow Skied and Water Skied a LOT was a Gym Rat for years......I was an active Scuba Diver and Instructor for years and years.. Even was an avid M.A. student and Instructor... None of those , have I found to be as satisfying as Sailing!!! With The Exception of Scuba.. Sailing was and is the only endeavor I was able to REALLY share with family and friends..
