I just put the 5/32 size on last weekend. What a fun exercise that was. They fit, but there is a very slight gap once on. I you go larger, don't need more than an extra 16th inch.

I have just replaced the PVC with flexible one inch inner diameter clear plastic tubing. 4' for the shrouds, 3 ' for baby stays.

This stuff comes rolled up and wants to stay 'rolled up'. I hope the sun, with the mast up, straightens them out.

I think the shrouds should be in open air rather than corralled in a sheath. They are easily inspected for any corrosion, kinks, or strand breakage.

SJB, I think what Matt was referring to was thin, plastic sleeves that fit over the actual shroud cables themselves... they prevent chafing of the sails on the metal shrouds.

Now, if I'm correct, what you've referred to are 'boots' to go over the coupler that holds the shroud to the deck-mounted chain-plates... these would be like short, plastic tubes (though some fancy folks make them out of white leather!)

Both are good additions - I have them on my Boston Whaler Harpoon and plan to add them to the Mac.

kmclemore: exactly - just trying to figure out what the optimal size would be, from Dan B - sounds like the 5/32" are just a shy small.

I don't have shroud covers, but the shrouds are definitely 5/32" (no clue about the baby stays).

Think I recall someone's theory that one size larger is easier to install. Might try getting two each of the 5/32 and 3/16" then see which provides better service over a season.
