Mac "Bump" fix....

When we would retrieve our S it would pull right up to the "V" snubber block on the trailer in the water. Coming out of the water it would rotate on the bunks back away from the "V" a couple inches. The anti-lock brakes on the Suburban made it hard to execute the "Mac Bump" so we usually towed it with it sitting a couple inches back. In fact we towed it 2200 miles back from Florida that way without a problem, but still I didn't like it.

It finally dawned on me that if I couldn't get the boat to the "V" block maybe I could get the "V" block to the boat so I modified....



...the trailer to do just that...



with the piece above. At the same time I made a couple other...



...mods to the front of the trailer to handle a problem that surfaced when I added the double anchor roller to the bow of the boat.

Very nice. You are truly a mod "guru".

However, as to your comment on not being able to execute the "Mac Bump". I think most of us probably have anti-lock brakes...I know I do...and I could do it with no problem. 10 mph and hit the brakes hard. I doubt the brakes were locking up...not sure...but the boat would still slide forward those 2". Then tighten up the front winch and strap.

With my new LoadRite Trailer I don't have the problem anymore. The winch holds the boat right against the front bow roller and keeps it there as I pull out of the water.

But, irregardless (is that word???), your mod is very slick.

Anti locks bring more stopping power, not less. I haven't done the Mac bump in a longtime....getting the boat to the block isn't critical imhe.

a little dishwashing (or carwash, etc) soap on all the bunks, macbump works quite well.

I think many owners just do not do it right. the winch strap needs to be loose a bit (to allow it to slide), and the stern strap (if any) should be loose.

but good idea on the mod. should work well too

Mac bump relies on truck brakes only as trailer brakes are wet--best solution for me has been to move the trailer winch line to a straight pull then loosen the line and bump. I have bottom paint that is wearing off at the bunk but so far, no growth.

I just started using the Liquid Rollers stuff and it works great.
I can easily winch the boat up to the vee on level ground. Not a problem at all.
Or even just a very mild 1 mph bump will slide it home in the vee.
Really jamming on the brakes would send the boat into the truck

Good stuff, BUT, watch out, the stuff is slick.

My old normal operation was to unhook the winch hook before backing down the ramp to launch.
Been doing it that way for years.
Not anymore.
The Liquid Rollers WILL cause my boat to slide off the trailer once it simply gets on the downhill ramp.
I now NEED to leave the winch hooked or the boat will slide off right onto the ramp.
That would be very ugly, no doubt.

I have a grand total of 4 launch/recover evolutions so far and the "slick" has not changed yet, so I don't know the length of time before a re-spray.
Also, no bottom paint and brand spanking new carpet on the brand spanking new aluminum Mac trailer.

Not sure of any consequences with distance trailering as I only trailer about 200 yards one way, but when I do, I'll have plenty of tie down straps - for sure.
