I haven't been on the forum for several months, but I'm very glad to see this is coming together nicely. I was out of the country for the last two JMGTs, but it is looking like I will actually be home this year. As long as nothing changes, I am planning on joining you as well with my 26M for Friday - Monday. I do have one small problem.... I don't have a mast. :( I was de-masted earlier this year and I have not had any luck getting a replacement mast yet (despite my best efforts). So I'm trying to decide what to do. My options:

1. By some small miracle, I actually get a new mast in time (not likely)

2. Just try to straighten out the kink in my old mast and throw it back on the boat for looks, won't use it to actually sail (most likely)

3. Borrow a mast from one of the other two 26Ms in my marina.. (pretty please!)

4. Go without a mast and ruin all the photos with my ugly "power boat". (I guess I could be the camera boat)

Hopefully the group won't be too ashamed to have me join if I get stuck with option number 4. I'll do my best to make one of the others work. I'd say that I'm probably at a 90% chance of making it. There is still the possibility that the Air Force will have other plans for me. Crossing my fingers.

I look forward to meeting everyone. I've followed the last two year's events on the forum with envy. Hopefully this year will be the best yet!

Joel,

We'd be glad to have you, with or w/o your mast. PM me for the latest information regarding itinerary, meet points and local resources. You can also try C130King (Jim). Since you will be coming from South Florida you might want to utilize the marina / public ramp where I keep my boat. Google Mandarin Park and Holiday Marina. This wil give you the opportunity to enjoy sailing the St. Johns River south of the city. Let me know if you have any questions.

Joel,

Or you can try the NAS Jacksonville Marina. That is where I will put in. I used it for a year when I first got my boat and it is a good marina/ramp.

Small fee for boat ramp...parking is free and on base.

Cheers

Joel,

I missed the part of your msg about you being in the Air Force. I'd agree with Jim. NAS is a great start point.

Looks like the Admiral has given us the green light!

Compromise will head down with the NC crew arriving before lunch on Friday.

Reservation made at the City Marina today. I aksed if they could keep us togehter. Very nice people.

Only weather and AP calculus schedule will hold us back.

We are looking looking forward to the trip. We may bring a friend (a real Naval Commander) from Jacksonville to day sail on part of the trip.

Thanks for setting up this event.

Thanks for the welcome. It looks like I may actually be able to go with "option 1" after all. I spoke with Bluewater Yachts again today and it looks like my mast is being shipped tomorrow! I should have it in a week. I just hope it makes it through the shipping process ok. I've read some horror stories on here about people having masts badly damaged in shipping. Guess I'll spend next weekend transferring all the mast hardware. Apparently I'll be learning how to pop-rivet. Should be fun.

The NAS sounds like a good idea. How far is it from where everyone is meeting up? Guess that's what Google maps is for.

You can go ahead and put my wife, Lindsay, and I on the confirmed list. Our boat is "Easy Come, Easy Go"

Hi Folks,
We're jumping on board here. Corresponded with John a few weeks ago. '96 26x Unwinder will be joining the flotilla. We're located at Amelia Island/Fernandina Beach and will meet you at Ft. George/Talbot Island on Friday 08/02/11. We've reserved a slip at St. Augustine Municipal Marina for Saturday. John...I'll PM you to exchange contact info, etc. Looking forward to a great weekend! -Mark & Terry Deaton

Fortunately for you, amongst the 1430 new features in Photoshop CS5 is one called "Add Mast to MacGregor". So you can just fixup the photos in post production. Unfortunately, the software costs more than a new mast.

Mark, Joel,

I believe your boats put the number at 13. This is going to be great! Please call the marina at St Augustine to make your reservations ASAP and let C130King (Jim) know how it turns out. He is managing the event roster. If you guys need anything PM me.

7 x 26 :macx: ...

5 x 26 :macm: (two of them the "slow blue" variety... ) ...

1 x 26 S ...

That's right...13 Macs are on the roster for the 2011 Jacksonville Macgregor Get-Together. Friday night cookout on a beach off the ICW. Saturday sailing in the Atlantic and then sight-seeing and dinner in historic St. Augustine, Florida. Sunday back up the ICW to Jacksonville for an overnight and dinner at the Jacksonville Landing.

It's going to be a great event. So who else is going to show up. Let's see if we can get the number up to 15 or dare I think it...20.

Parking on the beach at Little Talbot State Park:

5 Macs docked in St. Augustine:

3 Macs docked at the Jacksonville Landing:

Can't wait.

My local club in Charleston does a Labor day event. But next year I think I"m going to break ranks and join the JAX crowd. Looks to be a great event.

My key safety point is to "buddy up" and don't leave a boat behind...especially those slow blue hulls...they may never catch up... 8) :D
