A Story of Mutiny on the Latitudes & Attitudes web site

Post by richandlori »

I have been spending some time on the Latitudes & Attitudes website, bullitin board and chat room lately after discovering the mag and in the last few weeks there has been an interesting story that has resulted in a site moderator deleting many posts, locking out members and now, tonight, an all out mutiny leading to the creation of a new BB site. This is an example of what has been going on there:

The Site Rules thread. ANYONE on this board can delete their own original comment, then repost it without the follow-up comments. I didnt do anything that each and every member could not also do. Yes, I closed the thread. It is meant to be read by the members, not to be negotiated.

I deleted two old threads, one was an old porno thread the other was an old political thread, ones like the threads that started all of this.

The only other threads and comments I have deleted are personal attacks about the moderator position. This site is about the sailing and cruising lifestyle. This site has a moderator, period! Starting thread after thread about not needing a moderator or voting on who should be the moderator is off topic. Lets get this board back to discussing sailing topics.

I have NO IDEA where this issue of foul language got started. Nothing has been said about language, NOTHING. Cuss all you want. I have not deleted any comments because of language. Yes, personal attacks against another person are not allowed. It doesnt matter who the other person is. Personal attacks will be deleted.

Example: F______ XYZ is an ******* !!! Will be deleted.

Read the rules, you can argue and disagree all you wish, using any language you chose.

I have repeatedly stated, I will not argue on the board. If you have a question please email me (or message me).

From tonight on, we will be censoring the board. Those who go beyond what I deem decent will be barred and locked out of the site.
I am sorry, but this site was founded for an open discussion for cruisers, and it is meant to be a sailing board. If you want to show how much porn you can post on a website go to Hustler.
This board is for cruisers and sailors. Where's the line? It's in my head. Cross it you're off the board. Want to talk politics? Fine, as long as it relates to cruising and or sailing and or boating. Want to post a photo of someone in the buff? If it's in good taste, kewl, if it's not, it'll be dropped. Do it twice and you will be barred from the board.
Damn I hate to do it this way, but some poeple just don't get it! Bob Bitchin posted Feb 09, 2005

Gregs Pub is about sailing and cruising, Bob has clearly stated this.
Talk about ugly. In general there are lots of great guys/gals on the site, but it is interesting to see what can happen when a few people get out of hand. It is also a great testament to member of this board that it rarely gets personal or out of hand.

for those interested, the websites are:

http://206.131.241.61/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi

and the new BB site started tonight:

http://ladypauline.com/bb/

You will reconize the web format of the new site, as it is the same as MacGregorSailors.com that we have come to know and love.

Just thought I'd share the interesting story of the Mutany.

I wonder if those starting the new boards realize what they are getting into. My impression is there are those few that think they should be able to do anything. Of course they are not liable either. My guess is those so inclined will flitter away and will not be missed. The core will remain and it will carry on.

It is amusing to watch.

We made one trip to Stockton. That was it. The Mrs started a new job and didn't have any vacation. Between her new job and a few health issues, I did a lot of solo sailing on Longview. No complaints though.

We're still deciding what to do this year. We are looking at Tortugas and Bimini. I don't know for sure if we can put everything together for a trip like that but we are looking into possibilities.

Good to hear from you.
