st40 Rotavecta wind transducer help

Post by ozz »

I have a Rotavecta wind transducer mounted to the top of my mast. It seems Iam not receiving any signal from the transducer. I sent the st40 in to raymarine and it was checked ok. I have continuity from the A60 sea talk to the st40 and continuity from the st40 to the mast electrical plug on the deck. The cable to the wind transducer reads 12 volts. The unit turns on, but no information in on the screen. Is there a way to test if the transducer is sending information? I wanted to do a continuity test from the base of the mast to the transducer, but cant see a way to locate exposed wires inside the tranducer. (looks like a sealed unit). The fuses on the a60 also checked ok. I tried a continuity test on the two wires at the base of the mast which lead from the tranducer: that was negative. I suspect it might also be the mast connector, but the same connector also connects to the mast light, and the light works fine. It worked fine when i bought the boat last year. all other instruments work fine. the wind vane turns ok and smooth. :macm:

Well it seems just like the install I did, last year.
Raymarine A60 "New, Discontinued" Chartplotter, With Rotovectra St40 Wind Instrument..
Also Talking to a Raymarine "New, Discontinued S1g Hydraulic Autopilot"

Wind Transducer is just (two Wires) to Deck Plug........... Thats where Your problem is..
Oxidation, and other junk in the Deck pass thru. Would never join lighting, and 12 Volt connections.... With the Same Male/Female Connector as Rotovectra Data, or SeaTalk, or Nema stuff.

To Test, bypass the deck connector, and go to the back of the St40 Display instrument...
and You will see that it works fine.

Go luck, and Please let us Know the results.

After many tests and head scratching I found the wind cups were not fastened to the shaft tight enough. They were spinning but not turning the transducer.

Thanx capt Jack!
I connected the transducer cable from the mast directly to the back of the st40 and it worked perfectly! Now all I have to do is replace the plug. should I change the 4 pin plug to two 2 pin plugs? Thanks again for your help..its so simple, I cant believe I didnt try it earlier. :macm:
