Love my E-TEC. Never had a lick of trouble, and starts right up every time. Can be rope started from a dead battery as well.capt. black wrote:Have you compared the Evinrude e-tec 60 to the mercury bigfoot 60? E-tec's 3yrs no maintence , and less weight.

I've heard some concerns of noise with the E-Tec at low speed. This is important to us as the Admiral and I would like to putter around on the river and enjoy the peaceful serenity. At least until a bass boat passes...

Getting close now! Orders are placed! Decided on the Honda BFP60. Also added a Garmin GMI 10 display for engine monitoring and (later) wind instrumentation.

Do yourself a huge favor and go buy a length of PVC pipe, 2 end caps to fit it, and some PVC cement. Cut the PVC pipe into two lengths such that they'll be a few feet higher (mine come right even with the tops of the rear-most lifeline stanchions), glue the end caps on 'em, and slide them over the existing goalposts.
I also added a second set of tall goalposts to the trailer that line up about a foot forward of the chainplates, because with a cross-wind I found that once the bow is through that first set of goalposts, it LOVES to go crosswise out over top of the fenders
With the second set of goalposts forward, I get the bow between those and I'm home free (I do this operation solo a lot). Even with a crosswind pushing the boat over onto the two goalposts, I can slide forward and the bow comes close to center due to the curve of the hull.
As long as things are going slow and easy, the PVC doesn't break but it does flex a lot more than the base steel versions, and it has not left any marks on my white hull.

If these are still the same as they were in 2004, they are too-short and made of steel with a rubber cap on top - on a steep ramp it's possible for the boat to drift over top of the stupid things, and voila more scratches. Also beware on your first launch of the guideposts on the trailer

If it's not too late, you may want to switch the GMI 10 for a 421s. It's the same price, you get all the same instrumentation capabilities including wind, and it's also a full chartplotter.ChuckieTodd wrote:Getting close now! Orders are placed! Re: New Mac 26M
The GMI came in on Friday. I'm realizing now that you're right. Same functionality. I'm going to put the GMI next to the companionway and perhaps a 421 or 521 on the pedestal. Now for instrumentation below decks...If it's not too late, you may want to switch the GMI 10 for a 421s.

Also, don't forget to drill a hole at the bottom of each guidepost so that any water that accumulates in the posts can escape. I have no idea why Roger doesn't do this at the factory? He's heard about it for years!Andy26M wrote:Capt. Sharon wrote:

Progress, progress!
The boat arrived on the 13th. I'm really happy with the white hull. I'm now waiting for the motor to be installed. I chose the Honda BFP60 with a 14x11 prop. Hopefully I'll pick her up this week. Fingers crossed!

Still getting dust from the ceiling liner after one year. A for the new boat smell -expect that to happen every time you open it up after a hot day. I've read of people having that last for years!
Don't worry bout the blemishes you'll add a few of your own soon enough ......
Best boat going!

Hey Rick!
The goalposts on my 2011 are of longer heavy aluminum tubing with rubber caps, and are open at the bottom so no water gets caught. Roger must be listening!

I think I have the longer ones too. They extend all the way up to just under the rubrail. The goalposts on my 2011 are of longer heavy aluminum tubing with rubber caps
I can't seem to stay away from the shop. The motor's on now as well as the controls. The Honda looked alot bigger in the box. Installation looks really clean.

Re: New Mac 26M
Well folks - the boat is home! After several weeks awaiting the Honda, I can finally say I have a MacGregor. I'm very pleased with the work Ocean Marine did. I went for a water test this morning. Everything checked out great. Made 16.5 kts on the Android but the app I used only shows .5 kts increments. I will use the Garmin on the next run. I was only able to get to about 5200 rpm. I'm thinking this will be my "speed prop" and get the 14x9 once we pack the boat full of the inevitbale stuff.

Re: New Mac 26M
FYI my Etec 50 with 14 x11 turns 5800-5900 rpm WOT 15-16 kts. I would think your Honda would turn that the same or higher. That Honda is a great engine, enjoy. The Etec 50 top end is 6K rpm. Perhaps the 4S Honda top end is lower which would explain the difference. Top end speed seem spot on.
