Blue hull verses white hull

You don't need henweighs on the blue hulled M's made between 2003 and 2005 so weight is not a problem on my 2003 M.

Wow! It's good to see all of you have a great since of humor. I especially like K9Kampers reply...too funny. Cindy has read these replies yet but I know she'll get a kick out of them. Nice bantering going on.

Slow or fast? We won't know the difference. Heck, we haven't even gotten the hull wet yet.

Actually, I have a confession to make, we were going to get the white hull because we didn't want to shell out the 400 clams it cost for the blue hull but when we went to buy yhe boat mike Inmon told us of some freebees we could get due to a boat show. Beside the blue hull, we got the Genoa 206 sail, the roller furling for the jib, and the disc breaks on the trailer included at no additional cost. This saved us $$$ sinse we were going to buy all of these options anyway, save the blue hull.

So, now we have the blue hull and for that I must say GO BLUE!

well, just be prepared to say that a lot as the old blues need as much encouragement as you can give them to keep up to the much faster white hulls...

All I have to say is all you guys talking about ordering henweighs for blue hulls are FULL OF IT because the factory won't put a henweigh on a blue hull, because they are too slow

It's all good, Ron and welcome aboard. Nothing wrong with a blue hull that a bucket of white paint won't cure.

Of course, this is coming from a guy with a 26X. They only offered white back then, before they slowed things down with the blue hulled M.

As was explained to me by a sage and hardworking boat detailer.

Hull color vs. boat speed.

The darker the color.......the slower the boat in miles per year.......

when it is on shore......it takes longer to polish and protect the darker colors.......during this time........the white boats are covering more distance, while the dark boats are still being buffed.

and since speed is distance vs. time. any greater distance in a year would mean a corresponding increase in speed ...............

and as we all know....... boating is all about image.......and how we look, and since we are talking macgregors here.. we must always put boat hull cleanliness, polish and neatness as the most important aspect of boating.

this sized boat, the extra 10 hours or so of detailing spread out over a year results in approximately 8766/8756 hours/yr availability, or 99.88 % of the white boat, so during those 10 hours, at an average speed sailing of 5 kts.....(since we only go across the wind) the white boat can cover about 50 nautical miles more in a year.

and since a lucky sailor takes the boat out for at least 500 miles in a year......

it seems.......we have a winner..........

well it's quite obvious that the extra weight of the pigments in the colouring will slow the blue hulls down.

No Doubt about it .............The Blue Hull Is Very Pretty..( I Have a white 05 M) It For Sure...Will Require a lot more time to keep Gorgeous!! BUT GORGEOUS!! It can be..... if ......your that kind of guy????
I Never Owned a White Truck or a White Bike and only had 2 white cars out of toooooo many cars to count.. Why? White will Never Look ....Drop Dead Gorgeous.. I Even did a Multi tint white pearl paint job on one car and ... Pretty she was, but she was never as Gorgeous as any of my Dark Color vehicles.. IMHO .. Buy a Porta Cable Buffer ... your going to need it With some trial and error, to come up with the right combination of waxes? You can make that Blue look 6 feet deep! White is either clean or dirty...

Its all part of optical Physics and the doppler effect. Objects that move away from us look redder and objects that move towards us look more blue (i.e. redshift and blueshift). So a blue hull will look faster when its moving towards us but slower then its actual speed when its moving away.

... and yep, I did get myself a Mac because I honstly need to get out more

A white hull is just one that hasn't had the blue 'speed paint" applied yet....
Some people just prefer sailing on a slower,unfinished boat....
