To me, leaving the the mast raising pole in place while sailing is like leaving your fenders over the side while sailing.

To remove the mast raising system while you use the boat is so easy, why leave it on? You run the risk of lines tangling on it and the sail getting caught and ripped on it. Also having those little shrouds on makes it very difficult to get forward in a hurry if you need to. The winch on the mast raiser will get damaged from salt spray and I am pretty sure if you just bungee it to the mast you now will not have a rotating mast. So why not just remove the thing in the first place. Come on it will only take you about 2 minutes. And it fits under the long port setee or can just be put in your tow vehicle. But if you must leave it on, just give me a call when you need a new sail or mast raiser!

I think this short video clip only illustrates that whoever was the director, (he/she), knew nothing about a MacGregor sailboat. It was only a prop. This reminds me of all of the ignorant people who make wild pronouncements about MacGregors on the SA website.

Personally, I don't have any qualms about leaving the "Baby Stays" connected all the time, but I do see how an obese person would have a problem with trying to go fore & aft with them attached.

worrying about the MRS aerodynamics with things like the stock sails and the windage of our hull design doesnt make a lot of sense to me is truly sewing a silk purse from a sus scrofa....

Frank or anyone else that may have some insight to this,

Do you leave your Baby Stays connected but not have the mast raising pole in place? My Baby Stays are connected to the loop of line that comes from the winch on the mast raising pole. Thus when the pole is removed the baby go with it. Do you connect your baby stays directly to the mast and then just leave them connected?

Just wondering.

If your wanting extra support while powering or sailing the baby stay's are not going to do anything for you they'r just a pita when going on deck just something else to trip over, thats why I try to avoid any lines coming out past the jib tracks the area between the jib tracks & the stanchions I try to keep this clear so as if you have to rush out their for any reason their's nothing to worry about tripping over


Now you can always add a double block to the Masthead then run non stretch down to the bow pulpit & the aft stern that will give you extra forward & aft support at very little cost , or just a single block & add a cheap mac vang to your topping lift & switch it over from P to S as needed while sailing "reason for my traveler on my aft arch"

You can also add a third set of shrouds without the additional cost of a second pair of spreaders will not be as strong but definately stronger than just two sets of shrouds but not really needed if your not into heavy sailing

Well, Highlander, when one has more sails, rigging, sheets,blocks & tackles than a 1600's British "Man of War", like you do on your Mac , I could see where the Baby Stays being attached would cause one a hassle. I've viewed your great video's and I see that you've hidden the GUN PORTS well. I don't leave my Baby Stays on "for support" while sailing, it's just one less thing for me to do when rigging and de-rigging + it's an added saftey bonus when trailering, which I do everytime I want to go sailing.

Really nice modification job by the way...you sincerely make us fellow Mac owners very proud !

When you TACK you do the "TACKY", when you GYBE you do the "GYBEY" or something on that order... anyway that's how I read it. PM Catigale...he knows mostly everything except what Pokerick knows.

Looks like you have a full batten Main and a furled 150 Genoa.
How do you like the Full Batten and does it reef well? Also ,when You furl the Genoa that much does it stay in shape somewhat? The picture shows the Genoa Luffing but that could be spilling the wind without reefing the main.
