Re: Mac Trailer vs. Other Brands

Post by Rick Westlake »

I did the "trailer refurbish" job on Bossa Nova's stock trailer; I had to have the brakes rebuilt to get a Maryland tag on it. Then I had a bunk come off on my first launch of the next year's boating season, and I had to replace the bunks ... then one of my old brake shoes (which hadn't been replaced as they hadn't shown any wear at all) came loose and jammed one wheel of the trailer while I was launching the boat, and I had to remove the wheels and brake drums so I could remove the brake shoes.

The old trailer was OK, sorta, for storing the boat at the marina. But I wanted to travel with the boat, and I felt that more money on that trailer would be "throwing good money after bad".

I spent $3500 for my new, galvanized, dual-axle trailer, and I feel it was money well spent. I might have been able to bring the old trailer up to "like-new" condition, but IMHO it just wasn't worth doing. AFAIK the old trailer is still in use, but just as a "yard trailer"....

 im sure if you washed then waxed then sprayed salt off on you stock trailer after you launched , then did the same thing when you retrieved, then when you got home did it again along with a yearly rebuild and twice yearly paint job it may last a little longer

Red.... maybe someone here will ...buy it.. List it in the 4 sale section..
Lets us see what you buy and the price.. I may in time replace my trailer too.
But I doubt it will be with another Mac Trailer.. I want, I think( pretty darn sure) to have a trailer that will haul my Mac and a 21 foot C.C.
I do not want the cost of storing two trailers in a lot somewhere, and I really dont want a trailer or a boat sitting next to house in Florida..
I owned a home on the Island of Cozumel for over 10 years and worked and visited for over 17 years now, and as a Dive Instructor I rebuilt a lot of scuba gear..
Some I tossed in the garbage and told the owners to Buy New and Next Time take better care of it!! Between the wife and I we own 5 complete sets of scuba gear , and we still both dive on occasion with the Original gear.. Humm At no less than $1000 a set we take care of it... I saw lots of issues with Salt water and lack of maintenance.. Our little VW Bug and 2 Motorcycles went to "heck" no matter how much time, was spent on them ... Because we were absent 7 to 9 months a year.. Yes I have seen lots of issues with Salt Environments.. Aluminum Light Fixtures even Copper pipes on the roof for gravity fed supply systems.. You Name it..
Back to my dream :) about One Trailer for Two Boats... What do you see as my chances of making that happen? Is that longer trailer a better solution? I hope.. this predicament will arise in the next 12 months as we sell and move..

im sure the mac factory will be happy to build you one for the right price, or maybe you can purchase mine and adapt a towbar to fit to your mac trailer and a few mods, and tada!!!!! may even be room to throw a jet ski on ther too :D 8)
