SOS SaniPottie Retail Help!!!

I need a little help here folks. Does any body know a reliable retail source for the original SeaLand SaniPottie that comes with a 2000X. Ours sprang a leak and needs to be replaced ASAP. I found them online for about $90 but I need one by this Friday. I believe West Marine carries them but for about $60 more. I can afford the $60 but I can't afford the years of therapy to get over overpaying that much.

Any assistance appreciated.

Of course, the alternative is to line the holding tank with a couple of plastic bags in the mean time to use it until you get a replacement.

I work part time at a West Marine. Yes, most stores will have it in stock. I believe Campers World also sells a version. There are like 4 make/models that are identical except for the branding just FYI.

I have to admit, now Im thinking about buying a spare, and effectively upping my holding to 10 gallons - which would give me all week without dealing with waste. I did use the Harborkeeper pumpout boat on Cuttyhunk the other week and it worked well. Incidentally, they dont pump out PPs, but since mine is plumbed to a through deck pumpout, they cant tell. I told them I only had 10 gallons in the tank (5 of waste and 5 of water I poured in while they were pumping to flush.

Really. Never had a problem getting our pp pumped out. I just take it on deck..call them...they come and empty it. Never been a problem anywhere we have gone. Good to know if that is the case at cuttyhunk..strange rule though.

call them and say the tank leaks. I actually called them 2x and got 2 (one to replace the leaky tank, once to get a spare) to ensure I always had a backup on hand 'just in case'. They don't ask any questions. Great customer service..at least a few years ago when I called. 1.800.321.9886

After having leaking problems a few years back I ditched the Sealand product. We had the 5 gallon tank model and the plastic in the tank is just too soft and over time fatigues and leaks. We switched to a 6 gallon Thetford model which had a lot of nice features but also suffered from being made of too soft of a plastic. It suffered continual leaks at the seal between the top and bottom due to flexing.

We have now switched to the 5 gallon Dometic model. It is so much higher quality compared to the other two products. It's not cheap at WM, but for such a critical component of the boat it is worth the money. The plastic is much harder, stronger and stiffer. The mounting system is the best of the three, way easier to use than the Sealand. The pressurized flush tank is a really nice feature I thought was a gimmick but have found very useful.

If you are going to lay out cash for a new head take a good look at it before you buy another Sealand.

Paul - info about Cuttyhunk Harbor was from Harbormaster Isabell, so usually that info is good. If you do have a through deck, you can do the deed. You can also carry the tank into the onshore head and dump there of course (BTDT)

In June I bought a new 5 gal Dometic 965MSD SaniPottie, and went sailing for the July 4th weekend, but didn't have it plumbed for deck pump out yet. I went to a pump out dock but had to carry the head out onto the dock for pump out. I made a big mistake, forgot to open the vent or the flush valve. Before I realized what I did, the holding tank was crushed like a milk jug, but had no leaks. I actually used it for the remainder of the weekend. When I got it home, cleaned it up, and was able to use my air compressor to pressurize it and popped it out back into sort of the original shape, used a broom stick handle to work on stubborn spots. Got it into good working order again, but looking at it you can tell it's damaged, but doesn't leak.

What I'm finally leading to is that after reading the previous posts about Dometic's great customer service, Paul S. provided the phone number, I thought what do I have to lose, I'll call them. Just as Pual stated, no questions asked they are sending a new tank!!! That is great customer service!!! Before I could tell my story the lady asked me for my address, she'll ship one out today, no charge!!! I'll keep the old one as a spare.
