Quick Rig Kit - Blue Water Yachts
I am interested in getting the Quick Rig Kit http://www.bwyachts.com/web%20catalog%2 ... ig_kit.htm from Blue Water Yachts. I did a search and did not find very much at all.
From the description, it seems it would help the process out some. Now that I am in my 40s, getting those damn pins and ring-dings in place can drive me mad without my glasses on.
Does anyone here have the Quick Rig Kit? Does it help?
Thanks,
Paulieb

Re: Quick Rig Kit - Blue Water Yachts
Looking at the kit I appear to have already put all these various bits in place. It does help a heap! My quickest rig is about 45m, though now I've got lines aft n lazy jax it's got a bit longer again.
I have turnbuckle screws and simple carabiner snap shackles on the lifelines which is a real bonus. I'm still running with a ring-ding pin on the forestay as it is such a crucial bit of kit. However since putting a simple pulley adjuster on the backstay I really don't have any problems clipping the front pin in anymore. Just make sure when you set the raising pole up that you can really wind it up!
A really handy thing I've got into doing is taking the furling line up to a pulley on the front-top of the pulpit... I keep this under tension as I crank the mast up n down and it stops the damn thing from crashing n banging about the foredeck. Very good when singlehanded.

I always unclip the forestay on de-rigging since I noticed how kinked the stay gets at the top if not really carefull. Our boat came with a two strand connection at that point! I want to keep the new shroud in as good a state as poss!!
I've also raised my lifelines, starbord side done, port I keep the spinny pole

Looking at what the kit has the price does look a bit steep?
A visit to the local chandlers or even a boat jumble and I am sure that you can get all the benefits at a much reduced cost.

Hmmm, getting the parts seperatly seems like a good idea. I wish they had a picture of the kit so I knew what I was looking for.
I would not want to pick up anything that was not up the the task and end up with my mast in my lap.
Thanks for the feedback.

The only real worry is the forestay pin. I'm sticking with the ringding on that one untill I get a second forestay on.
For all other bits? I'll take some photos if you like, mainly made up from bits I had lying around.

With regard to that forestay pin, I'm playing around with a small ss shackle, rightly or wrongly. It is certainly much easier to get the shackle pin in and take up a turn or two of thread when mounting. As its' under a lot of tension, its' unlikely to unwind when tightened either. Has anyone else got something different that works?

Re: Quick Rig Kit - Blue Water Yachts
The only ring ding I use in rigging is for the forestay. Go to Blue Water Yachts and order their clevis pin for this job. It looks like an exhaust valve with a hole down at the end. It's stainless and it's hard to drill a hole in the valve part, but that's so you may secure the thing to the boat with a small chord. They're too expensive to have rolling into the drink.
I've got five pelican hooks and a load of snap shackles. These stainless hardware pieces add up. They're necessary for guys that trailer down to the launch ramp. If you're sitting in a slip all summer you can cut back on the pelican hooks.

Re: Quick Rig Kit - Blue Water Yachts
I've been tempted to use a snap shackle on the front, or better a decent mainsail/halyard locking d shackle. However the thought of a bit of anchore chain or mooring line or anything else catching and releasing it will reselt in a very simple scenario.
I've experienced a mast collapsing under sail, it fell forward. On a Mac, the mast would simply go straight into the cockpit. And if my wife was there... it doesn't bear thinking about. hence I've got the system of cranking up to work so I can still easily use the ringding. (I rig every time we go out!)
If you're going to stick with a shackle on the forestay, then at least wrap it in a few turns of electrical insulation tape as an added safety.
BTW has anyone got a photo of what the BWY pin looks like to make it so clever?

Re: Quick Rig Kit - Blue Water Yachts
I was hoping someone from BWY would see the post and respond with a picture of the kit. I think I would have bought one already if I could see the bits in it.
