I would be curious to know the thoughts of the present owner when he read the surveyors report.

Do you think it was transported to Lake Meade, because of structural problems.?? Lake Meade would propably be much safer than the open Ocean.

Did you ever consider just getting another ITs still a decent motor boat, or if you definetly dont want to Sail on lake Meade, you could always sell the mast & sails.

Sad/ glad to hear about the yacht. Sad that you didn't buy a boat that you wanted. Glad that you didn't buy a boat that was a junker. Sounds like someone was trying to do a bit of a scam. But, you were wise enough to avoid it.

How about taking the S.O.B. to small claims court?

I'll let you know next time I'm in Southern California for more than a few days - - - I'd love to go.

Small Claims Court is a possibility - - - but I understand they have weak enforcement (actual collection) alternatives - - - they want to protect the dealers and hotel workers who are the usual defendants.

Hard to show damages - the cost of the survey is intended to mitigate the very situational risk that was exposed...not that I am a lawyer of any way shape, or form...

Hey Rick -- sounds like you avoided a serious mistake. Even if you loose the deposit of $1,000., which is chump/change comparible to what could've been a much bigger financial disaster along with the headaches of restoration and repair.

Do as someone above (earlier) already suggested...just get another Mac-M. But, with the new "upgraded alum. trailer, and power up (maybe 60 or 90 HP), do a few extra interior mods for comfort, and you're back on the water with something reliable. And, if you want to tow the beast 1000 (plus) miles to another waterway...no problem.
And, best of all, this idea is with a savings of at least $250,000...which isnt too bad.

Those marine surveyors are simply amazing. I suppose because they do it
all the time they are very clued in to things you and I would miss. I have a
snippet:

While I was waiting at the docks with our marine surveyor, Alan, for 'En Route'
to be hauled we traded a few stories. I said something to the effect that as a
newby to west coast sailing, if I stood still on the dock for thirty seconds someone
was bound to stop by and tell me exactly what to do. And later someone else
would perfectly explain how and why to do the exact opposite.

Alan responded,"Do you know the definition of an Island?"
Me, " No."
Alan, "An Island is a difference of opinion surrounded by a body of water."

As they say you gotta spend a $ to make a $ looks like you won the lottery just by the surveyours report money well spent
I've seen guy's buy boats from gut instinct "clueless" when it came to Boat hulls & maint. but she looks good ! saved on surv costs as they said ! only to find out that they still required one for either insurance or financing, then found they had just bought themselves a Dock Queen , but without insurance they had just bought themself a dry dock Queen

Sorry it did not work out sounded like you really liked this boat Oh well next time
