Very Nice Little A/C

Post by jschrade »

Not sure why this is listed as $209 as it sells for $99 in the store. We used it for some Marina camping for the 4th of July.

This A/C is the smallest one I have seen and is very easy to stow away down below. It made sleeping on the boat a dream.

I bought that Figidare a Mo. ago because I thought mine was laeaking freon as the cabin burt eyes and a slight smell. Come to find out it wasn't the AC it was the carpet I installed 4 mo. ago with rubber backing.
My original was a 5050 btu Samsung that is much more efficiant than the Frigidare.
The frigidare is same height but 1 inch less in width.
Here is pictures of the Samsung installation, don't have pictures of the frigidare but I have to put foam on one side to fill the gap, going to put my Samsung back in and keep the Frigidare as spare.

I bought the same Frigidaire last fall used it about 3 times. Mounted in Billy AC mod which is cool however the AC unit I think I might have got a lemon it doesnt cool things done that well and not right away. The back side should be putting out hot air but it is not. Any suggestions?

A 5000 BTU AC should freeze you out of a Mac in about 10 minutes.....if it isnt it probably doesnt have a good Freon charge..

You Boston Folks haven't lived here in SW Florida in avarage 92-95 degree heat and 70-95 % humidity. A 5000 btu with tent over boom and at a Marina in 92 degree heat will get you down to 78- 80 degrees during day,use interior fans with it. During Night lower to setting 3 and you will sleep in 72 degrees.
I built a lot of Custom homes in Cape Cod back in early 70's to late 80's and never put AC in them. Summer Wind flows accross the Seas.

I run a 9k BTU system aboard my :macm: . I don't use a boom tent and have found over a hundred degree temps in the galley after opening up the boat midday. The LCD readout on the unit only registers up to 100 degrees I presume. It takes an hour for the unit to cycle down to 80 degrees if the outside temps are 95 degrees. That is the way it is in central Florida. Hot Hot Hot.

Mr DaveB would not get as cool as he does had he not use a boom tent to keep the sun exposure to a minumum. His is a 5k unit. Interesting that it does as well as it does. I think there is more cubic feet within the innard of an :macm: or :macx: to cool than meets the eye. :)

Hey Ron... sounds like a leak in the freon tubing.

I accidently drilled a hole in the tubing and just recycled the whole thing at the local scrap metal place and then just bought another at lowes.

I have the same mod as Victor, Ron and Billy (the all mighty creator of the enclosure). I love it, it totally rocks!

Ditto

We pray it doesn't get too cool at night in the summer that we need blankets.

I just cked the temps. at 3:30pm inside the boat. At the time I had a mast tent 12 ft. length tarp that covered half way to forward side window aft to almost cockpit length. Outside Teps were 90 degrees and full Sun. The inside of boat was 81 degrees with the Figidare set at low fan speed and dial set at 4 (8 would be max. setting). I also have my 66 quart set at 38 degrees but was registering 34 degrees at the time.
I than put it on setting 7 and high fan and withing ten Min. brought it down to 78 degrees. This was useing the new Frigidare unit I wasn't happy with.
I keep the AC to keep mosture out of the boat and cost less than $5 a mo. to run, also keep frige empty so no mosture inside and barely runs when cabin is 80 degrees.
All wireing, panels, speakers, paper items all stay dry and no mildew thruout.
My frige is always pluged into DC batteries were a auto matic charger is always maintaining the batteries and fully charge.
I can do this as all it requires is AC line to boat, and that is supplied by my house with boat on trailer.
I wonder how Hot Boston got today? :D
