You have my mouth watering for some pics and vids Wife and I have decided just today that next January we are towing to southern Florida for a Month or two of sailing in and around the Keys; for the experience on big water and the warm weather. It will be a couple of yrs for we have enough sea legs (or guts) to try to make it to the Bahamas But that's the Plan Stan

Goin' to the Keys next January,ya might as well go across with us! I'm sure we'll have plenty of company on the crossing, and with careful weather planning,it's not as scary as it seems....
And when you get there it's this...
I'm taking I-87 & 1-95 for the trip. The trip has been delayed 2 days because of the wind and snow storm we are having now.
My boat today leaves no one wondering why I'd rather be in the Bahamas:

It was doozi coming home @ 02.00hrs this morn between the blinding blowing snow, high winds & icey roads could not do more than 40-60km/h so was a long "short" drive home, not the kinda road conditions you want to be pulling a boat in

Would love to but wife (and truthfully me) feel we need some experience in the ocean first. I have only sailed lakes and want to get a real good feel for what we, as well as the boat, can and can't do before we under take that trip. But man I really appreciate the offer and hopefully the year after we can take you, and anyone else who wants to come, up on it.
Have an awesome time! What a wonderful journey. Looking forward to your logs. Be sure to have good electronic charts. These are shallow waters. If you plan on entering the Sea of Abacos, be mindful of the weather. There are times when it is impossible to get in or out due to breaking waves through the channel. This was the case when we chartered in the Bahamas and were stuck in Abacos the whole time. If we go back, I would stay in the Caribbean and avoid Abacos altogether.

I have procured myself the explorer chart books for near Bahamas, all the NOAA digital charts on my PC, SeaclearII and the florida bahamas chip for my Garmin GPS as well as a bahamas cruising guide and will be getting a Florida cruising guide and chart book when I get there. In all that I find that the Explorer chart book is absolutely the best cause it includes so much more chart and other information, recent way points (sept 2009) , reading the water pictures and Visual piloting markers on the chart. I also have celestial bodies for navigation books and a swiss army compass. My buddy who is just doing the Bahamas part with me will be bringing his SPOT satellite position thing too!
I am practicing calculating my S curve vectoring course for the GS crossing

I think ya gonna have to trade that car in for an SUV all wheel drive or Truck 4x4 , its the pits down here I can not even get out of my driveway right now waiting for it to stop snowing & the wind to drop down before getting the tractor out & put that snowblower to some good use , and there's a news paper out their some where at the end of my driveway which might end up being confeti if I cannot find it first
More Snow on the way ! and what we get usualy heads up your way that sucks EH ! so you might have more time to work in the boat if poss.
