Ugh, yeah. It's 20º here - I know what you mean - it's a good time to re-think everything through.
FWIW - to any who don't know, Leon is truly one of the resident experts on sailing a Mac in higher winds. He's got a lot of good info and mods all over this site. It will be a good while (if ever) before I catch up to some of the things he's done.
Happy imaginary sailing to all fellow northerners.
Thanks for the endorsement Bob. "Expert" is probably a bit too strong. To anyone looking at my mods, a word of caution. I tinker with stuff a lot, probably too often for my own good. Point being, however, is that I changed a number of things that I posted in the past. For anyone interested in the current version of any particular mod, PM me. Currently working on minor repairs and tweaks to existing mods. Hoping to be done sometime in January and will take a bunch of pictures and post everything when it's complete. Ahhh.. then for some winter sailing in California. Sorry Northerners. All good as long as it doesn't rain, and the only time I get to use the 150 genny
Im just amazed at the kind of weather Leon heads out in. I have been on Cat36's and Sabre 36's on SFO bay the same day as Leon, and been reefed and still overpowered on a 22,000# boat. I cant imagine what it is like on a Mac....either lots of fun, near death, or both....
Come-on no need to be Shy & Bashfull besides he does not have to tell you ! he could lead you down the wrong launching ramp !

Gotta have something to talk about until the Boat show comes in Jan 9th - 17th 2010 in the Big T.O. cant wait to get my fix ! hope it's better than last yr's dismal sailing display's

PS "Leon" All in good time "Young Jedi" !!!! Ya musta be talking to Currie
Great info guys! Bottom line-Is the cost (Money, space, time) vs. benefit (improved performance upwind) of installing a traveler worth it? I would consider installing if I got my money's worth. BTW I've got a

No shyness here. It's just not really any of my business. If Leon wants to install an arch on his that's find with me, but I'm not sayin' a word - no matter how hard you try to get me to say it, John.

Thank you all for contributing, I have learned a great deal about the main sail traveller, which (until now) was pretty much a mysterious piece of hardware that I only had a crude knowledge of what was for. Thanks!!!
