Rubber Rub Strip Repair

Post by ubi_est_via »

Hi,
I split & slightly chewed a 8" section of my rub strip against a jetty. Does any one have any suggestions on an appropriate way to repair the damaged section ( Techniques, repair compounds, cut & join? etc)....Cheers, John

Hey John, try a search on Rub Rail Repair. There are at least 6 different threads on same. I know you can find help in one or several of them.

Hi John,

Ooops.

My marine technician tried to repair a small section of my rub strip (100mm) and was not able to do it unless repalcing the whole lot. He put some aluminium sections over it and did the same on the other side of the boat to make it look the same. Looks pretty good now.

Here's a video that show's the replacement on a 26X. I'll be doing mine next spring.

There was a suggestion posted on this site to use the stuff you dip tools in to rubberize a handle. I tried it on my :macm: and was please with how well it worked. Purchased mine at ACE Hardware. It is called 'something" Dip or Dip "Something' can't remember :?: .

I used Sikaflex 291 on my chewed strip. Close colour match and can be sanded down afterwards
