A quick trailered 26M question...

Post by Doug W »

I've got a quick question for Mod #1, my 26M's new home. Earlier this summer, I measured the height of a new :macm: with mast down and on its trailer to make sure mine will fit through my stable's doors. I neglected to measure length. My barn is 46 feet long so that's not a problem. The back 22 feet has a loft which I'm going to remove a section to accomodate the aft end of my boat. How long is a :macm: on the new Aluminum trailer with mast down--from tip of mast (or end of raised motor) to the tip of hitch?

I need to figure out the size of 'notch' I need to cut out of my loft so that there is room to walk around the front of the trailer, yet maximum room around the back so my horses can get to their stables when needed.

If anyone can step out with a tape measure and check the overall length; or, someone already knows off hand, I'd appreciate it! The factory website and several marina sites I've checked just list the boat LOA and trailer weight. Not overall length of boat/mast/trailer! :?

Thanks, in advance!

I pick up my boat in 3+ weeks! :D

I didn't actually measure, but from the literature that my dealer provided (M with aluminum trailer).

Dimension on trailer:
Length 30' 3" engine down, 30' 7" engine up
Width 8'
Height 11' mast in crutch, 8' 5" mast on deck

I can't get a measurement right now, but on my "03, the mast goes back well beyond the raised engine.

This helps! I can alot for 32' or 33' for boat with fudge room, add walking clearance in front and have plenty of space!

Jim brought up a good point. I was looking at pictures of mast length on both X and M's on trailers and figure I can always lower the mast to the deck when backing it into the barn.

8.5' mast on deck height....so close. My loft is just under 8' clearance.

I may need to rethink it. Since I have doors at both ends, if I pull the Mac into the barn then I don't have as much of a notch to worry about plus a more narrow end which gives me more room to get to the stables. The front half of the barn has 14' clearance.

This is where she'll go. The runabout has been gone for a year and I sold that apollo 2 days ago.

A quick and admittedly rough measurement on my '03 - with the steel trailer - gives me almost 37 feet from the front of the hitch to the top of the anchor light on the end of the mast.

I hadn't been considering the mast length. Thanks again for the quick responses.

She may have to sit outside for a couple weeks while I redesign the barn with the boat on site. I can still prep the inside.

I've already floated the idea with my wife of making a 'boathouse' which matches the barn but the colored steel has more than doubled in price and the corner pieces have tripled in price. My wife said yes to the new boat but 'no' to a new shed to protect it. Rumbing something about giving a mouse a cookie, they'll want more...

I should have added that the measurement is with the mast in the towing position. If you disconnect it from the bow pulpit you could rig a different mount and slide it forward as far as the front of the hitch - that would bring your length down to 31 foot range.

By moving the mast as far forward as poss she will fit in under 32ft , by raising the front of the mast off the bow pulpit onto a wooden crutch or block will also lower the rear of the mast , my shop is 32ft long and my Mac26m with alum trl fits in their nicely my door is 10ft high though so I do not have an issue with that , I do have to fold up my 4ft bow sprit to close the door but it retracts to a vertical poss. anyway " good thing I designed it like that "

That's good to know! I'm making room for 34 feet. I began dismantling the loft railing the past couple evenings so I'm committed now!

BTW, I've looked at the various Bowsprit mods over the years and have admired yours with the aluminum mount which spread out the load. Great job! It looks great too! Now that you've been using it, is there anything you would have designed differently?

Did you do the machine work yourself?

My 'boathouse' for my 26M is 34' long, and it just fits in nicely with several inches to spare at each end while the mast is in its travelling position. I used blocks to stop the trailer tires when backing in so I do not go through the back wall with mast. :o

Hi Irafatsar,

You linked the picture correctly, but unfortunately, the destination isn't really a picture (like from Photobucket for example). It's an entire web-page that contains the picture. It would be very nice if there was a way to link directly to pictures from the Mod's pages. Heath? Moderators?

For now, you can change the [ img ] and [ /img ] to [ url ] and [ /url ] and it will at least show the link. Another option, of course, is to copy the picture to a photbucket or snapfish account and link to that picture.

Cheers,
~Bob

Ah ha!

As Russ has apprently done ( ? )....when you're in the mod, right click the picure and choose 'properties' - you'll see the URL to the picture in the dialog. Select it, copy and paste it in bewteen the [ img ] and [ /img ] in your message.

Gee, I would worry about a heavy snowfall caving in the roof. :? Unless you live in Florida or somewhere like that.
