2004 Mac Trailer Painted Steel (where to mount spare tire?)
Folks,
I have heard there was an optional spare tire mount from MacGregor on the older (2004-2005) trailers (painted steel). I cannot find a photo of one online, so if anyone has a 26M with a painted steel trailer with a factory spare tire mount, I sure would appreciate a picture of it. I am trying to add one myself, and would like to mimic what the factory did.
Additionally, if anyone on the forum has done this themselves (like one of the famous "mac mods") I would love to see what you did. I searched the site, but was not successful in finding a link to any posts (maybe I didn't search using the right terms??). Any links you can remember would also be great.
Thanks again,
JasonDW.

On my 2002 trailer it mounts on the tongue rail, right behind the ladder. I think the M is the same for the 2004-5 years.
Ive bent the bracket a couple of times - they cost about 20 USD to replace....

I took a piece of 1/2" all-thread and bent it into a "U" shape. I used it to hang our spare tire on the ladder. The top of the tire is at the top of the ladder and makes an excellent step when working around the front of the boat on the trailer. 1/2" is the thread of the lug nuts so it carries a couple extras, just in case.

btw, i put mine sideways on the ladder - in this position it will hit my van when I back up ) if I cut it sharply.....(I put a big dent in it, which luckily pulled out with a plunger)

Now doesn't that just look sharp! The extra white stripe created by starting the bottom paint job an inch below the boot stripe really adds to the overall look. I did the same thing but with a dark blue bottom paint and it looks just as good. Anyone contemplating a bottom paint job should have a look at this before painting all the way up to the boot stripe.

Use a U bolt from a 4" truck exhaust and hoop it around you winch tower through the lug holes in the rim. Replace the regular nuts with lock nuts. $5 solution.

Use SS if you are in salt water, and you will have a chance to get the nuts off when you need that spare.

Mac Folk,
Just finished my spare tire holder. Bought a gal version - Probar $35au. Had to cut it and weld a piece in so the spare was raised for ground clearance and set further out away from the hull.

Just need to keep the paint up to it re rust factor.
Kind Rgds

We leave our spair tire locked in the back of our truck I think it is safer there as well no exposure to salt water or salt air.
