I am shipping a macgregor overseas and would like to know if I'll have to remove the axle in order to fit it into a shipping container. What other options are there for overseas shipping?

Transporting a 26X in a 40' shipping container
we shipped Martin 16 in shipping containors this summer. I realize they are smaller and we shipped by truck and rail, but the info might help. We used blocks made of 2x6 lumber ,one flat and one on an angle , to chock the wheels. Lag bolted them to the deck.One before and one aft. took off the screw jack from the front tof the trailor and lag bolted the tongue to the floor of the can using the safety chain. They are shipped this way all the time apparently with no damage. Just be sure th boat wont touch the side of the can when it rocks and rolls...hope this helps

Looks like slight tilt of the trailer, and Axle removal, and then several hours of blocking and wrapping, (does bubble wrap come in 4ft wide rolls.) removal of loose systems...... lots of photos., a whole bunch of luck....... and a large fork truck to slide it all in maybe.
There is at least one other thread.. I'll see If I can pick it....

Why Not Contact MacGregor directly?? As I would think from what I read on their site they do this regularly with great success.

Unfortunately MacGregor don't export second hand MacGregors. In fact I think they discourage it - they'd rather sell them overseas new at inflated prices. Each time a rang they tried to discourage me with bogus reasons i.e. having to modify the trailer, quarantine concerns etc.Divecoz wrote:Why Not Contact MacGregor directly?? THen IMHO
Keep posting and searching looking and asking and SOON some sailor with heart and the knowledge you need will come to your aid. I know we do it with concerns to Scuba etc etc and with MGB's . Meaning NOT everyone is in it for the buck though it might take a bit of time to find a TRUE sailor .
I for one will be on the look out and WILL while I am down at my house on the island of Cozumel ( next week )be asking around for the info you need about transporting a boat inside a container.
