Standing Fast,
Welcome aboard. First big tip...learn the "Search" function. And also, just click on the Powersailor Forum and keep scrolling through topics until you see some that seem like what you are looking for.
Here is the results from an advanced search on "26X 26M compar*" -- Search Results 26X 26M compar*
And here is a link to the Macgregor 26M website -- Mac 26M vs Mac 26X
Do some digging and you will find all kinds of info on the pros/cons of each model. Everyone here will have there there own opinions...but those of your Admiral may be the most important ones.
Good Luck,
Jim

Who can help you make the final decision???? The ADMIRAL, fool.
You know that Confucius said, "Man who fights with wife, gets no piece at night." Or was that peace?????

They are both good.
Another popular saying, "A Mac in the driveway is worth two on the sales lot."

To hard to answer - your personal preferences are probably not mine.
Modified vs not modified
cabin layout
new vs new to you
cost vs benefit
the comparisons go on and on
I would suggest you take a large pad of drawing paper and draw 3 columns - lable them - mine / preference / hers - and start filling in the chart. ie: preferences would be cabin layout, backstay, centerboard, modified and in the mine and her columns write how you feel about it.
And when your done you will see why buying what she wants is not such a big compromise.

And after you do a little research on the differences between the
and the
if you have any questions about the pros/cons of one or more of those differences then you can ask a more specific question.
I think I would prefer the kick-up centerboard over the daggerboard but I do prefer the cabin of the
. And in the
I think I would prefer the galley location/layout of the '03 over the '05. I do prefer having the head up forward versus by the companionway...especially since I don't use it much (at least not yet).
But you know what they say about opinions...
But I absolutely love my '05
...
...and don't listen to Q1...the white hulls are faster
Cheers,
Jim

Re: 26M or 26x ?
go with what has been suggested so far,its all down to personal taste, there are some advantages over design differences, there is not a lot between both in the performance stakes.Have a good look at both the x and the m,the x has a dagger board that kicks up if you hit anything, the m has the rotating mast that probably gives it the edge in the sailing dept.
Try to decide what you would like in the boat as far as extras go,i.e VHF radio,Chartplotter.modfied galley etc and of course there is your wifes input,if your wife has some input then she will feel part of the team

There are two different cabin versions of the
of course - the 2003 2004 version and then a 2005-present.
White hulls have proven to be faster than than all other colours - this was settled in 2005 in Edgartown MA in Vineyard Sound

Despite the seemingly well-balanced commentary here, it was definitively settled some time ago that the

So the decision has been made for you. Get an
You should also know it was definitively settled that the white hull is faster than the blue (this was scientifically varified by three independent labs.)
Good sailing!!!!
