Oh crap. What started as a bit of a lark for fun is quickly turning
into the next "must have" addition to our cockpit. I had no idea
there were such nice wheels available in smaller sizes to fit our Macs.
Thanks for the Stazo link K9. Oh yeah, it's bookmarked.

Greg- want a free Kelly Hanson wheel brake next time I run into you?
(I see you're doing the FACS run to the coast in June! Let me know how it goes.)

Thanks Laurie but when I changed out my steering system last year I went with the zero feedback system.
I can stiil feel the load on the rudder when I try to turn it a bit but unless I turn the wheel it stays put. Basically I always have a wheel brake on.
As for the FACS spring sail, turns out my oldest has his convocation middle of that week so we can't go. After 6 years he "expects" his parents to show up. :)

Hasn't the weather been grand lately

The wheel You will find here:
http://www.segelladen.de/Inhalt-untergr ... radzub.htm
No. E 4516703, the 50 cm diameter (176,90€ about 230,-US$). fits very well to the original shaft of the :macx: .
I doubt that they will ship to the USA however if anybody is interested I can get it for him and send it in a packet as a gift (for custom purpose :)) to him.

Yes I know and I would wrap the ring with a cotton line and a few knots and dress it up. But it is a tad big for the MAC I am afraid.

Elk hide wrap??

Followed by tarring and a liberal dose of spotted owl feathers, no doubt.
:D :D

I like that string wheel wrap - anyone care to post something on that (like Kevin asked??)

Several years ago I visited a booth at the Seattle Boat Show which was selling leather wheel covers. I bought one and installed it. Good directions, and it turned out nice. I think the outfit was called Boatleather. It's held up well, and I really like the warm feel and good grip it gives. In Northwest waters, it's nice to have something other than icy stainless to grasp. And since I don't yet have auto pilot, I spend a lot of time holding that wheel. That wooden wheel does look great, though. Maybe when the leather wears out...

If you like it, Ron, 420 mm is 16 1/2 inches - isn't the Mac stock wheel 15 inches?
My P.O. put a 20" wheel in Bossa Nova, and it's just fine.
