Hi

If one of you ever come to Portugal, e-mail me it will be a pleasure to show you around.

Ray... Honeymoon in the middle of a revolution (even the flowers revolution) thats adventure man...

About what happened to mi boat...

It happened in Setubal Bay at Portinho da Arrabida area. I was lucky because in the night wen the tide came up the sea was very very calm.

I am on the way to make the mod on Hart web site (without the lead).

What I would like to know is if it is normal that the centerboard does not desapear completely inside is box.

Mi centerboard when totally inside the box stays 1/2 inch out in the pivot pin area.

Is that normal?

It seems to me that if the centerboard it was totally inside would not suffer the same amount of damage...

Jose

PS: Is there someone writing Portuguese do you know the language or is it an auto translator????

This was the solution for the new reinforced pin hole.

The diameter of the hole is a little bit larger than the pin to maintain the characteristics of the original design.

Epoxy (white parts) was used to repair the GRP

I also made the longer bolt mod on the on the centerboard bracket.

That is a simple and VERY USEFUL MOD.

Because it turns the centerboard maintenance a breeze

Jose,
saw your centerboard repair / upgrade in the Mods Section.
Looks good, but what's with the dead body under the boat?
In North America we hide those...

Man you have some lovely cruising grounds there.

I had thought to beef up the through-pin area of the centerboard in a similar manner to the photo above, but then got to thinking that, like the fairleads used with the rudder lines, the original design is probably meant to provide a specific, minimally catastropic point of failure. If the centerboard is stronger, and the front edge of the board bottoms out on something with force, then you will be looking at major hull/box repairs as the bracket is forced up through the centerboard box. Better for the weaker centerboard to fracture and the pin to push up through it a few inches (and repair it at equal strength, or rather, weakness) than have to deal with major hull damage.

Just something to think about.

(I've also considered shaving down/reshaping the front of the centerboard, or some other modification, which would have the centerboard entirely within the box, but haven't come up with any plan that I'm satisfied enough to implement)

Patrics

I didn't do this as a upgrade but as a really big repair. :(

In this picture where you see white epoxy there was nothing when I started the repair.

Image

I had the same doubts but I didn't come up with any better idea :|

The center board is so fragile in that area that if anything happens it will break again bi the centerboard hole.

I only used 4 small bolts no 6 for that reason.

The centerboard in that area is hollow filled with foam :?: except for a small kind of pipe that in mi case virtually disappeared...

Looking at it now it seems to me that the centerboard hole suffers enlargement mainly on trailering that is why it starts to come out below the trunk in the hole area :?:

Maybe I should have moved the hole to the front/down 1/2 inch

Because it seems to have some space above.

Here is a drawing of the system (maybe useful to someone...

You can see the bolt increase of length (a very useful mod)

All the best

Jose
