Speaking of the Edge
The H dealer in Seattle has one of them but it did not make the Boat Show. Where was it? The Mac dealer sold some boats there, hmmm, I wonder!

Re: Speaking of the Edge
It could be sitting north of 49 for the Vancouver Boat show. Specialty Yachts will have several models of the Hunter at the floating portion. the 31, 36, 41 DS, 45 DS & 49 subject to change due to dealer and broker inventory. I am expecting to see the Edge at the indoor portion within close proximity to where the MacGregor will be.

Re: Speaking of the Edge
It's human nature to be competitive... Macs are such a great niche boat...... similar products are bound to
If you look at all the havoc wreaked in Florida and the Gulf coast - I am absolutely astonished that there are not a LOT more trailer sailor boats offered.... So I think your 33 could find great advantage on the gulf coast... Katrina and Ike pictures alone should help sell all the trailer sailor boats made by any manufacturer - whether from Hunter, MacGregor, or whoever....
In this economy.. if you have a product that you can sell EVERYTHING you make on..... that is an astonishingly good thing to say...

Re: Speaking of the Edge
At the Seattle Boat Show VIP night I talked with another Mac owner who had toured the Edge at the Signature Yachts, the Hunter dealer on Lake Union. They did not bring it to the indoor Seattle show (although they had brochures there that I collected) nor did they show it in the on the water Boats Afloat portion of the show.
I assume it is still at their dock where it was before the show.
At the indoor show they did have a nice dark hulled H41,

along with an Island Packet SP Cruiser in their booth.

My wife really liked the look and feel of the Island Packet a lot. The forward cockpit is pretty cool.

Re: Speaking of the Edge
I sometimes wonder myself why I am so competitive about the Mac. I have been a dealer for many other brands in the past along with MacGregor: Hunter, O-Day, G-Cat, Sovereign, Mirage,South Coast, Windsurfer, US Marine, W.D. Schock. To mention the powerboats, chough, cough: Sea Ray, ProLine, Bayliner and more. I have owned several race boats in past, one of my favorite was a Hunter 35. Still, since day one it was MacGregor. I now race a 1979 Venture 23. What is it about this brand? As a dealer. MacGregor is my favorite. Partly it (the competitive streak) might be the splash that some overseas factory did on the 26X. That just PO's me. Still does it to me! Hunter seems to have copied the old Mac 19 with its hard chines more than the 3rd generation Mac Powersailor, but the water ballasted powersailor was Roger MacGregor's design all the way. I will have no problem with a new Hobie 33 or redesigned Hobie, I will be jealous maybe, I loved that boat. In New Orleans my S35 was often beaten by the Hobie dealer's H33, a spinnaker reach and I was toast, but let us go upwind and he looked more like a goat! Just don't try to copy MacGregor's designs. Hey, if I had $$$ and had thought about i would have done the same on the H33. Don't let the price get away from you and you will sell a bunch.

Re: Speaking of the Edge
All Roger has to do is start making the Mac19 again to compete with the edge , I sat in one "an Edge" at the boat show & thought yep mac19 only slightly wider the boat is really only a 22 1/2 ft boat once you deduct the 2ft swim platform & rudder compartment , my cutter rigged
will beast the pants off the edge sailing in any direction
Anyway I'll keep my nice 26m

Wow! That is a very nice boat, I better not let my wife see that one. It seems like it would be rather difficult to single hand that baby, but if you can afford that boat, I doubt that you would have any trouble finding a crew.Duane Dunn, Allegro wrote: My wife really liked the look and feel of the Island Packet a lot. Re: Speaking of the Edge
Since I am still looking I also looked at the Edge. First thing they are lot more expensive - it's a copy of the Mac, I think - and the Mac has more room in my opinion. I guess I will have a Mac this year if all goes according to plan. I find it hard to find a dealer somewhat close to Arkansas.

Re: Speaking of the Edge
Well it's official!
Today is the first day of the Vancouver Int'l Boat Show!
A full page boat show ad in todays Vancouver Sun newspaper has the Edge listed as one of the Hunter boats being displayed by Specialty Yachts.
I can't wait to see it, all I have heard so far is other opinions and I really want to see for myself what all the fuss is about. I'll try to keep an open mind and give it an objective look over. It would be something to have a viable competitor in the market place just to keep quality and pricing in order. I have Friday and Saturday to see the show and will spend some volunteer time at our MacBooth, a table promoting our local Macgregor club. Always looking to recruit new members.

Re: Speaking of the Edge
Compared the two side by side at the Toronto show 2 weeks ago.
The big surprise to me, was the posted boat show price.
Only about 10% more than the MAC, as I recall.
Each will have their fans. Some like red sauce on their pasta, others only white.
In the big picture, it helps to legitimize the class.
... and competition is always good for the consumer.

Re: Speaking of the Edge
I saw the EDGE at the Cleveland boat show.I believe the sticker price on it was $42000 or $45000. The fit and finish did look a bit better than the Mac but that price way too much in comparison with the mac. When I told the sales rep I had a Macgregor he didnt want to say anymore.

Re: Speaking of the Edge
I saw the Edge at the TO boat show with Alex and Highlander this Jan.
Not impressed.
The cabin seemed like that of a 22, not a 26.
I did like the head and the stern area, but that was it.

Re: Speaking of the Edge
I posted my long review of the edge from when I saw it at Newport, so I won't repeat it here.
http://www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/v ... 69#p134551
Yes it is more expensive. But OTOH they give you a lot more hefty a trailer, fit and finish is SIGNIFICANLY better, and they give you a lot more standard equipment than the Mac. I think it ends up being a better 'value' than the Mac, but the downsides that matter to me, put the edge out of the running. The Mac is more a kit boat, the edge is more 'ready to sail' out of the box.
I would still buy the M over the edge personally, but I can see the appeal of the edge.
Both have their target market. Most of the crowd here is not that market.
