Now called the Catalina Island Armada it was decided by group vote the date must be moved to give enough organizational time. Sept 19 and 20, Time needed mostly to line up sponsers, band or bands, raft-up and dock locations for pre-armada event, motor boats for escort, officials and supplies, prizes, Sea-Tow or Vessel Assist, Coast Guard,Sailing schools, Square Rigger charter boats, other charte fleets, Yacht clubs, web-sight, insurance, launch ramp. These folk have spent 3 meetings on this event, we meet every two weeks about it. PLease, if you can think of any other matters needing work, feel free to help, even if just an idea (I'll take credit for it if you want). The brief outline is three pages so far, will be on web soon, I'll post here first.

Mike,
We're always game for trip to Catalina, Two Harbors.
June 20, 21 is a long ways off, but we're open to whatever.
Bummer about having to vacate the Mast Up Lot until March 9.
A month seems like a long time just to resurface the lot.
Maybe they will finally get rid of all the derelict boats rotting away there.
They could gain 50% of the spaces back.
We are going to tow back up the hill to do some minor mods at home during the closure.
OK Hardcrab
You are the Group leader for the trip to Catalina. now, go win the prize! A fiberglass model of, guess what, a MacGregor 26M. It is about 30" long, blue hull and exact scale made by the computer from same 3-D machine as the original full size Mac is made from. These are not for sale and very rare (they just cost too much to make for a small model sailboat) it is a beauty and I want one myself, don't have one though so don't bother asking me for one, can't give. Now for the simple rules! Sailstice is for introducing newbies to sailing. Form a group sail. Take a newbie on your boat for any trip/daysail/race/whatever on Sailstice. Give us the newbies name,address,E-mail,phone. We will send it to the closest dealer to him! OK, the dealer of the winner, your dealer will also get a model. The winner will be the group leader of the event with the most newbies. It might even be me if Hardcrab does a good job of getting a big gang of newbies. You, the group leader of the Sailstice will get the prize if your group has the most newbies. Is this clear so far? We will change the rules as needed, any ideas? Who is Hardcrab anyway, did I sell you your boat? Any of our dealers can get in on this, if a dealer as Captain you don't need to give us the address because you have got it already, just name so we can track totals. Don't make up the names to try to win, The shadow knows all.
Definition of a "newbie". First time sailor or first time on a Mac? Just the M, no, any Mac! Your Mac. Still open on rules for this since we just added an extra model for your dealer! Hueey, the best trips are going fast, one gone already.

I'll never tell Bil, (Hardcrab) bought his M from a private party - - - You only know M sailors who bought boats from you - - - - I know everybody cause I sailed out of MDR more than you
Mike,
I'm the only guy with a 90HP Tohatsu on the back of a white M in mast-up storage.
You gave my wife and I a demo sail a couple of years ago.
You got us hooked on the M, informed us of the great mast up storage deal, and we bought our M from a private party.
We've bumped into you various times over the last two years.
At least twice, we were docking at the ramps while you were launching new folks out on new boats.
Considering your "Captainship" offer.
It seems reasonable.
The Admiral and I are seriously considering joining a Mac group in "Chapter 2" on this voyage in June to Catalina Island. We would be sailing out of Marina del Rey. We are looking forward to additional information.
OK Hardcrab,
You now have 3 boats signed up including yourself and me (hope you win the Model 26M). I will sail from Newport Beach on my demo boat, I will try to talk Roger into it also. If we could take the big oat, Judy could come along, otherwise I might come on Sleeping Beauty from MDR.

This Sailstice is for you and your area! You can register an even, any event, in your area and be eligble for the MacGregor trophy as well as many prizes from other vendors! This will also put you on our list, might be worth something in the future.

how far south are any groups going to depart from? Oceanside? San Diego. We would like to try to make the voyage. so who wants to add us to their roster?
I'm leaving from and returning to Marina del Rey. I believe San Pedro in the Los Angeles Harbor is the closest point of departure to Catalina (about 20 nm). I have never sailed out of that area, so I do not know about launching and parking. I hope to see you there.
However, you could go from any port that you like.
If I can make it I'll be launching from the Cabrillo Beach Park ramp in Long Beach/Los Angeles harbor, North/West corner (3720 Stephen M White Dr., San Pedro, CA 90731). I suggest looking at Google Earth to get to know the ramp before you go, I inspect every ramp myself. I will try to be at the ramp at about 10am Friday. From there both Two Harbors and Avalon are about 23 miles, about 75 minutes in flat water, the closest ramp to Catalina. The parking lot is huge, there are 24 hour guards but the ramp is minimalist. The ramp is about three lanes wide with a dock on one side. The no wake zone is longer than you might expect and the end of it is not marked. You can see the sign for the beginning of the "five zone" on the return trip on a high quay to starboard. Depending on your route to the ramp you will pass a Waste Marine if needed (203 N. Harbor Blvd, San Pedro, CA, 90731-2208, Phone 310-833-0717). There are bathrooms but no other services, the washout was broken the last time I was there. There is a gas dock with a pumpout in the nearby marina but it is not a free public service. There is no charge to pumpout your head if you buy gas, otherwise a $10 fee. If I need to pump my head I do it for free at Two Harbors before I motor back.
That area of the harbor is rich with nautical sights, a 16" naval cannon lays along the side of Harbor Blvd., there is a working Liberty Ship, a few museums and nearby is the anti-shipping battery guarding the harbor.
Fair warning: the ramp at Cabrillo Beach is not usable at extremely low tides. The dock bottoms out and there is a nasty dropoff at the bottom of the concrete.Very low tides are in store early in the am on June 20/21(This may not apply, since the date has been changed to Sept. 19-20).
And from noonish-sunsetish, the winds there are very, very strong from the west, whipping around the PV Peninsula.
Other than that it's OPK for launching. I prefer the Queensway dock at the end of the 710 - nicer bathrooms, pumpout works, mucho parking. About the same distance to the island.
Both are fine, though.
