I was reading this post hoping to get an answer. Can the Mast be lowered with the boom and sail intact to pass under a bridge, or does the boom need to be removed?
I do it all the time; just turn the mast to either side and rest the boom on the sliding hatch / lifelines pointing back at an angle. While lowering the mast / boom I have the drum of the roller furling connected to the forward lifeline with a hook - so it can slide back while lowering.

pokerrick, I have to agree, it would kill me too. With my x - depending on tides - I had problems clearing a bridge on the way to the Gulf (BTW its no problem with the M) and here was my solution; worked perfect and beats resting that heavy mast on the shoulder! I mounted a rubber "V" with a U -shackle (had to drill 2 holes into the side of the "V") to the side of the mast support. During high tide approaching the bridge I just lowered the mast from its normal position into the "V" and was done, it rested perfect...
