We use surgical masks when emptying our port a potty and good masks don't transfer much smell and is cheep for all the trouble and expense the other systems cause. Keep your boat as light as possiable.

craiglaforce wrote: Personally, I would prefer no roller furler. Easier to put the mast up and down, and it takes me a few hours to mount a sail on the thing. But I would have to have my sails altered to go back to the hank on arrangement, so I'm kinda stuck. I truly hate that roller furler. If you get one, make sure the fairleads have ss inserts or the rope will cut into the plastic and bind.
If the jib is optional, I would consider ordering it yourself. the factory stock sails are cheap grade quality. Or at least they used to be.
Funny, when we got our new M in 2003 our budget did not allow for a roller furler, we thought it was the single biggest mistake we made. We did five seasons with hank-ons before I finally bit the bullet and got the furler. In hindsight, it was not that big a deal to use hank-ons but it is a big deal to get that forestay pinned with a furler in the way. I learned to hate that furler after a few setups. Now with some practice under my belt it is easier but still a challenge. If you think there will be times when you are going to single hand, definitely get the furler, a good one, not an inexpensive one. Get lines lead aft too.
Since it is a new boat, see what discount you can get for omitting the OEM mainsail and get a MuscleHead and then add a higher quality headsail than the factory one.
Get a minimum 60HP engine!
Get as many extras as your budget will allow right from the outset. 8)

I have a 2004 M with most of the accessories mentioned above (RF, lines led aft, chart reader, etc.). Surprisingly, the one I have appreciated the most is the autopilot. - I have the Sports Pilot Plus, which has been very reliable. It's a great convenience when sailing solo, or when you want to go below, or go forward to check the rigging, etc. It's also great when you simply don't want to be confined to sit at the helm for an extended period on a long tack.

Well We did it. We have a 2009 mac26M on order. the wife "admiral" (as I have discovered from this site) Insisted on a actual head with holding tank and deck discharge. We went with a Yamaha 60 long shaft saltwater version. and shore power. We are expecting delivery of February. The first upgrade will be a stereo/dvd system. I would love input on speaker location head unit location ect pictures would be even better.

Right on! Congratulations!

It's great. You don't even have it yet and you're already planning the first
upgrade. You're in good company.

All the best,

Indulgence!

Congratulations on your new boat. I have been sailing an M since June 2007 and I have had the boat out on the water 66 times since then. I wish the admiral and you all the best sailing for a long time.

thanks everybody, I had to keep the price tag to a minimum, something about a budget. I figured it would be better if I picked the stereo components for the audio and video systems. I have one question about the Sony marine head unit on crutch field ant body have one

Much as I wish it were, not our boat Finn, but I'm sure Irafatsar knows the sentiment was directed to him and the Admiral.
