Is this stereo a good deal???
MXCP66 AM/FM/USB CD Stereo Package
It is $200 off at WM. Seems like a pretty good discount. I am thinking of buying it now and installing it next Summer when I have time.
Just looking for any thoughts on this?
Thanks,
Jim

No remote but that is not a big deal to me. Jensen is a brand name that I recognize...for whatever that is worth.
Just out of curiosity how much is a subscription to Sirius? I guess I could go look it up myself.

The WM USB function is unclear... if it plays from USB - than that can be an advantage... (ie, take your 64G USB stick... :>)

Ipods run off a USB connection, so I suspect this is what it is vs. USB stick, but just a guess. I got the same email from West Marine. Looks like a great deal... just might get me one of these units.

Re: Is this stereo a good deal???
I just bought the sale stereo. The USB input will allow auxiliary inputs such as MP3 players, CD player and satellite receivers.
Beware of radios with Sirius & XM on board, you will still need to subscribe (around $10.00 per month)
I have an XM subscription so I can take my XM and use it in the house, car and now, boat.

What a BARGAIN $10/$15 a month for satellite radio - - - especially when you can rotate it between the cars and the boat. In the summer when sailing, I am almost always listening to a baseball game at the same time.gyroplanes wrote:Beware of radios with Sirius & XM on board, you will still need to subscribe (around $10.00 per month)

Well
I think We are all looking for a Bargain. USB
NO... Just USB Type Connector, to be routed using a USB Cable with mini-converer plug for RE-Charging: Blackberrys, MP3, etc,.etc.
No USB, Memory Sticks to Be used here, it has separate input for ipod analog audio output... nice.
So I guess , worth $99.00 bucks,
More Power to the Purchaser.
Merry Christmas....

Re: Is this stereo a good deal???
The problem with stereos that have built-in satellite radio receivers is that it requires a separate subscription to be activated. I have an XM receiver that I move from vehicle to vehicle. It plugs into the auxiliary port, or can broadcast to the stereo with it's built-in FM transmitter. No separate subscriptions. I keep dedicated satellite antennas on each vehicle and have a portable one as well. YMMV

Re: Is this stereo a good deal???
Well, I ran a thread a while back on Stereo Recommendations and now I see this deal. Well, I ordered it, for $99 US dollars even with the exchange it sounds good. Even though the ad had a red 'sold out' sticker on it the availability read 'in stock' so I went through the add to cart and purchase process and they took my credentials and sent me a process order# to my e-mail account. I guess they must have still had some in stock or the order process would have stalled.gyroplanes wrote:I just bought the sale stereo. So Gyroplanes, have you got it in your hot little hands yet? I could find no reviews for it, nor a brand name, is it a knock off? What do you think of it. I see Bass Pro Shops carry it also for $139.00 I hope it gets shipped to me.

Why is this a problem for ALL YOU GET for your $10-$15 a month???Hamin' X wrote:The problem with stereos that have built-in satellite radio receivers is that it requires a separate subscription to be activated.

Re: Is this stereo a good deal???
If you already have one, why would you want to pay an additional $360 to $420 a year??? That is the nicety of the portable ones. Why is this a problem for ALL YOU GET for your $10-$15 a month???

Re: Is this stereo a good deal???
So, While waiting for my new Stereo to arrive and wondering where to install it on my boat I went through all the 26M mods checking out a few installations. Some very creative work was found, some folks are quite ingenious.
I have been able to narrow down some ideas, one is to put the whole package, control unit with speaker on each side installed into the '03 galley top bulkhead just starboard of the dagger board trunk at the cabin top. This would direct all sound aft at the cabin top. A second idea that I got here:
http://macgregorsailors.com/modt/index.php?view=645
was mounting the speakers near the cabin sole. I do not have the dinette like in the picture so I would simply mount the speakers below the settee seats facing abeam of each other and hopefully the sound would be directed upwards bouncing off the walls of the small salon floor area. This would also make the speakers less conspicuous and then I only need but find a place for the control unit.
For now I want the speakers and sound in the interior leaving cockpit speakers for a later date. The dilema is finding the most strategic placement for the speakers. My fuse panel is on the port bulkhead beside the companionway (along with the VHF & Autohelm) so I cannot put a speaker there as I have seen others do, one speaker each side of the companionway. Any ideas? What about the one in the picture, is such low placement of speakers a good idea?
