Hi and welcome Aloha Alan.
As Mistral noted in the other thread, it would help if you modified the Location part of your profile to reflect key location, boat and motor info...
Meanwhile I've added you into the list of West Aussies, and assume that (since its from Synergy in 2008) you have a 26M.
Happy sailing

Re: Australian Members
Hello,
I have been following this web site for a while and the info everyone provides is very useful, so it is time to dive in and contribute as well. Please add me to the member list. My wife and I bought a 26x earlier this year and we reside on the Sunshine Coast in Qld (I haven't worked out where the location details are stored yet - any clues?)
We have owned trailer sailers for around 20 years now so I am used to the mods game and am starting to get stuck into the Mac. Ours is a secondhand boat but is still in a relatively vanilla condition so I have a blank canvas to work with. I'll keep you all posted.
Cheers,

Re: Australian Members
I have altered my profile as required.
Linda and I are the proud new owners of Scott's 1997 MacGregor 26X.
We are yet to see the boat in real life as the ship only arrived at Port Kembla on the 21st of Oct which was yesterday, and won't berth until the 24th of October meaning that we have to wait for customs to x-ray the container then unpack for inspection, probably won't see it until the 30th October, not bad as it was due to arrive in Australia on the 1st October!
I think it was sailed to Australia from the US.
Glenn

Re: Australian Members
Welcome all the new members and old ones who have joined the aussie section.
Strange that there doesn't seem to be any NT members as Phillip (Synergy) said he had received quite a few enquiries but the transport costs were prohibitive.
Hopefully there is someone up there looking for a really well equipped cruising mac next year AFTER we have a look at the Kimberlies.

Re: Australian Members
Welcome to the forum Mutt
Hopefully you won't have all the hassles I had when my boat arrived. It took 3 inspections by ASIC, because of the wood, etc. and than in the end I found that the porta-potti was still full. So much for the inspections. Make sure you take a toolbox with as you might have to put the trailer together. They put the wheels on and boat on the trailer for me, but had to put the fenders, etc. on. You might also require a light board and cable might be to short.
Hopefully this helps a bit and happy sailing afterwards.
Dirk

Re: Australian Members
Thanks for the heads up about the potti. Obviously a vigilant inspector.
We are putting the axles, wheels, tyres and guards on ourselves, the shipping yard has agreed to lift the boat and trailer with the fork lift or hoist while we attack everything with rattle gun, we will have our work ute there with all the tools, hope they unbolted everything it can really slow things down I have to weld it back together.

Crikey thats unreal, talk about buying a used boat
As for the inspectors doing their job
You were very lucky it didn't cost you big time for importing some bug not as though you had any control over it but you would be the one paying.
Mutt
Usually doesn't cost a lot to get the blokes in the yard to assemble everything so all you have to do is bleed the brakes in Sydney anyway.

Re: Australian Members
Well Boblee I enjoy putting things together, we have built our house, done extensions, ripped out the coil springs from our 1988 Range Rover and fitted small truck air springs (that was an interesting job) and am currently replacing the Rangies V8 with an Isuzu 3.9 litre diesel, when finished it will be turbo charged.
These are the big things we have been doing, then the MacGregor ........... well might start with a couple of blue water seats on the stern coupled to a targa bar holding the solar panel, that will help run the Engel fridge/freezer. First of all get the boat home and get the trailer registered then work out where and what to do first, I'm a fiddler.
I can work in fibreglass, steel, wood, canvas, leather and other materials, I can spray paint, have experience in electronics and hold an ameteur radio licence.
When I grew up if I didn't know how to do it then I asked questions, did courses and worked out how to do it, my fetish I suppose is that I don't like not knowing how to do anything.
While I'm at it does anyone who has imported their oun boat have an Australian-United Sates Free Trade Agreement (AUSFTA) document filled out by MacGregor Yacht Corp. It would be nice to keep the duty in our pockets instead of paying it to Customs.

Re: Australian Members
G'day Mutt
Wasn't meaning you shouldn't assemble your own trailer just that the blokes there don't/didn't mind making an extra bob or two and for me travelling 800 k's was pretty happy to have it done, had enough trouble just trying to find a trailer plug to fit our vehicle without worrying about anything else, I just wanted out of the joint.
A bit of a fiddler myself a sparkie by trade but there isn't a lot that I can't do or turn my hand to especially when stuck, which is fairly handy when wandering round the bush and now the waterways, I guess you will have plenty of fun modding your boat which to me has been half the fun.

Re: Australian Members
G'day Bob
The guys are happy to get a few boxes of beer for lifting the boat and trailer and letting us loose while they continue loading the waiting trucks, we do a lot of work 2 minutes away from their yard repairing new trucks, vans and tractors that are damaged in transit all of them straight off the boat, we repair the dashes, door trims etc that get damaged before distribution around Australia.
We were there today (Thursday), we went to the point to look out to see how many ships were waiting to enter the harbour, there was one ship anchor, as the MSC Krittika which has our container onboard won't dock until Friday that must be it.
I agree with you, modding your car or boat is part of the experience, for some reason a lot of wives don't agree.
